Transaction privacy

What fields does it pull from FB profiles / How does posting to users walls work?

1. What account information does this pull from the Facebook API? First Name, Last Name, Email, etc? Can you list out all the fields? 2. How does the posting to users walls work? Is that something they agree to during the signup and then we can post to their wall each time they place an order, or is that something they have to click like "Post My Order Information to My Wall" for it to post?

Hello, to your questions: 1. the Facebook Link extension will receive public profile ( name, profile picture, age range, gender, language, country and other public info ), friend list, email address and birthday. 2. When a customer first logs in to your store via Facebook, a pop-up dialog (from the Facebook service side) will appear. In this dialog, the customer will be requested to confirm that they allow the extension to use their account details (see the answer above) and to post on the customer's behalf. If the customer allows posting, the extension will post the order details automatically, otherwise, no posts will be made, These settings can be adjusted by the customer at any moment, in the Facebook profile. Hurt Our Sales We were excited to use the Facebook link module (v 2.1.1, Community) since our developer has used other AheadWorks products in the past (for us and his other clients). Looked like a great way to get social mentions and make login easier. Unfortunately, after a couple of weeks, Google Analytics revealed that the plugin likely *hurt* our sales (thousands of dollars!) instead of helping. More people were leaving the store at the login step and not returning. Puzzled, we discovered that the the plugin *forces* the user to give permission to post to the user's wall, even if they click Skip at that (2nd page) step, and *even* if you turn off the Post to Wall option in your Magento store configuration panel! This behavior sends a scary (but incorrect) signal to a potential user: "We insist on posting your purchases to your Wall even if you don't want us to." Even though it doesn't actually post, the user is afraid that it will, so they leave without buying. The authentication can and should be more granular, as explained by Facebook (Google "facebook permissions reference" to see it). The plugin can choose which additional permissions they request from Facebook when authenticating--it should not request publish_stream permission if the option is disabled in the store. I use Facebook to log in everywhere, and other sites don't always request permission to post to your wall. It took a couple of weeks to see the sales impact, then to try disabling the Post to Wall feature, and finally to learn of the coding/design defect. By then the 15-day $-back period was over, and a refund was declined by AheadWorks even though the module behavior is not our fault. (I even had trouble convincing them that they have programming control over this behavior.) They did try to make up for it in other ways (thank you), but the very short 15-day $-back period irritates me now. 15 days just isn't enough time to measure some impacts. If it isn't working out and it isn't due to user error and the user was hurt, a refund should be issued anyway IMO. Besides, 30-day $-back periods have been show (in studies) to increase net sales, not hurt them... (AheadWorks declined to fix this issue after a few emails back and forth. They also suppressed this review on their own web site, so it is being published here to help others avoid the same pitfalls.)
