Description

This admin page allows you to create, edit, delete and rearrange the hierarchical navigation for your stores.

The left sidebar displays all your categories. In this sidebar, you can click-and-drag any category (except Root Categories) to rearrange their order or nesting.

Click any category in the left sidebar to edit its details in the main section of the page. The “General Information” tab allows editing how the category displays in your site(s). Add or remove products from the category in the “Category Products” tab. Schedule custom design templates for seasonal promotions in the “Custom Design” tab.

IMPORTANT NOTE!

The first level of categories are used for the STORE ROOTS only, and are NOT shown in the top navigation.

Categories from the 2nd level and downward are shown in that store’s top navigation. If your categories do not show up in your store, they are most likely NOT correctly assigned to (subordinate to, underneath, etc.) the root category for the store.

Preconditions

Categories can be created at any time and will be immediately visible on the frontend. Several global configuration settings affect how categories and category URLs are displayed by default (see System > Configuration in the Catalog tab) and work in coordination with the settings selected at the individual category level.
