How To Use Custom Tabs

The Custom Tabs extension was designed to allow for multiple tabs with tabled content. It provides the user with multiple “Additional Information” tabs on the front-end product view instead of just one. The content in the tabs are customizable by setting up tab groups in the Attribute Sets manager. Creating a Custom Tab

This process is very simple.

1. Start by going to Admin > Catalog > Attributes > Manage Attribute Sets.

2. For the purposes of these instructions we’ll start with the “Default” attribute set. Select “Default” from the list.

3. Click the “Add New” button.

4. All Custom Tab sets must begin with an underscore _. In the box provided, type “_New Tab Set”. You can name your new set whatever you like as long as it begins with an underscore. On the front-end the underscore will be filtered out.

5. On the right-hand side of the screen, locate the “Unassigned Attributes” list. Left-click an Attribute and drag it over to your new “_New Tab Set” group. Repeat this step to include all of the Attributes that are needed in your new group.

6. Click “Save Attribute Set” to continue.

7. Go to Admin > Catalog > Manage Products. Select any Product from the “Default” Attribute Set. On the “Product Information” section on the left, select “_New Tab Set”. Fill in the values that you would like to appear on the front-end of your site. Save the Product.

8. All done! Navigate to the front-end of the website to the product that you just modified to see the new tab.

Troubleshooting/Common Issues

I set up my tab groups but I don’t see the custom tabs enabled on the front-end.

This extension was installed at /app/design/frontend/enterprise/default/catalog/product/view.phtml. If you have a custom theme then you should copy the view.phtml to the custom theme’s location.

If your custom theme is called “new_theme” then you would copy /app/design/frontend/enterprise/default/catalog/product/view.phtml to /app/design/frontend/enterprise/new_theme/catalog/product/view.phtml.

Do I have to use the Default Attribute Set? Can I use this on other Attribute Sets?

Yes, this works on any Attribute Set.
