Simple Installation Tutorial for Bluehost.com
This is an old revision of the document!
Ok, the presumptions of this tutorial are that you are a new Magento user interested in installing Magento onto your Bluehost account. I’m gonna try and be as thorough here as i can. and this should be pretty easy since i’m not actually a programmer or designer, i just learnt from experience.
Open your bluehost control panel, click on SSH/Shell Access, and follow the required steps to enable SSH access onto your account. This will require a scan or photocopy of your driver’s license to be sent to them, and it might take up to 2 days.
After the Bluehost people have enabled SSH for you, go to your control panel, open the SSH/Shell Access menu, click on Connect Using SSHTerm (requires java). Needless to say.. you have to have an updated version of java on your PC
Once the java applet is loaded, click the small connect icon located at the top left, or simply click File, Connect.
Click on Advanced In domain, enter you domain in the form: domain.com In the port, type: 22 In the username, enter your domain without the “.com” part. In the Authentication type, choose password. Then click connect.
You might get a message that says “Server Refused to Start X11 Forwarding”, just forget about it!
And you’re connected!
If you’re unfamiliar with Linux or DOS, this might seem like total and absolute giberish.. but don’t worry, just follow the code and you can’t get lost!
Type the following code statements. After you type in each statement, click enter. I’d recommend that you don’t copy/paste, as sometimes it can get troublesome.
tar -zxvf magento-1.0.19870.tar.gz
chmod o+w var var/.htaccess app/etc
chmod -R o+w media
And the rest is coming real soon! :)
