South African Magento FAQ
Most of the questions listed here have not been answered yet. In time this will become a single repository which links to various other forums, posts, external sites or modules that answer common issues.
www.mygate.co.za There is a MyGate Enterprise and Virtual module available now. Details will be posted shortly.
www.netcash.co.za There is a Netcash module available.
How should the standard “Tax” module be set up to handle VAT?
* In Admin Panel, select Sales, Tax, Manage Tax Rates.
* Add New Tax Rate, Select South Africa as Tax Country, Select * (all) for region as well as for Post Codes.
* Input 14% into Rate 1.
* Save your new tax rate.
* Delete the other tax rates if you will not be shipping international.
South African banking systems seem more set up for Electronic Transfers than overseas markets. There is currently only the option to receive Cheques via post, but we might need to develop a custom payment method.
This module will help get you started - http://www.magentocommerce.com/extension/304/bank-prepayment-vorkasse-
www.fastways.co.za - Fastway Couriers has a comprehensive API which includes support for their SA franchises. WebShopApps have developed a Magento extension for Fastway, and recently (Jan 2012) updated it to also support South Africa. (If you can’t view extension be sure you are in their AU webstore)
The extension provides live Fastway Courier rates including facilities to:
- Specify whether to display rates for satchels or standard road delivery, or both
- Specify your sending depot for accurate rates
- Supports Australia & South Africa Depots
www.bercoexpress.co.za - Berco Express has API to access their system for quotes, collections and tracking. I personally haven’t used it though because I can’t afford to develop it, but I have the API.
Current experience shows that none of the South African courier companies have the technology for 3rd party integration, but if you know of any that do please add the information here.
UPDATE: Berco express shipping module is available.
