These days are over, Search and Replace is the solution you were hoping for back then.
With the Search and Replace extension you can
- Select products from catalog to search in
- Define the term to search for
- Select attributes to search in(Description, Name etc.)
- Display search results
- Delete search results
- Select search results to replace searchterm
- Define term to replace with
- Display replace results
- Undo individual replacements
- Mass undo replacements

Stable release
2012-06-15 03:15:36 Version WITHOUT foreign key. Means search results remain after deleting according product, attribute etc. You may want to go for this drawback in case of other installed extensions make those keys cause 'Integrity constraint violation'.Stable release

Search & Replace 1 1Almost forgot myself that i have got this extension handy. Printing issue in some catalog, having to replace a part of product names through a hole category of clothing, configurable products with ceveral sizes for sure... Was honestly considering to delete and reimport before Search & Replace came back on my mind. Don't imagen how much manpower is getting wasted daily by editing/saving magento products one by one. Don't hesistate to let me know if the price should be knocked down to be more realistic. There was people buying the search & replace first and the search & replace suite half an hour later.
