Color Swatch is an extension for configurable products which can show to your customers how a product looks like in different colors, patterns or designs. Color Swatch works with all types of attributes (color, size, manufacturer…) and it only extends standard options in Magento without affecting standard functionality of it. It is compatible with all versions of Magento and requires no additional scripts or plugins.
With Color Swatch extension you get a plugin which is easy to install and integrate without any specific PHP knowledge , which can be used together with Magento’s default drop down boxes on configurable products and, most importantly, which is compatible with all versions of Magento.
Color Swatch shows your product attribute options as swatches on configurable products. This also means that you can use Color Swatch for any type of attribute (size, manufacturer, etc.) and not just the color.
Aside from all this, Color Swatch changes the product images and prices as well as the more views images depending on the swatch selection.
It can be applied to multiple attributes of a single product where you can upload different swatch images for each of those attribute options. Setting up different swatch images for normal, hover, active and disabled state of attribute options is also possible, and swatch image size is configurable via Magento administration.
Also, pop up boxes are shown on swatch hover, with additional details of the swatch selection being hovered over.

I purchased this extension for a client, and it works great! The extension is highly customizable, easily themable and has accomplished everything that I have needed. Support has helped me update the allowed dev urls, change the colorswatch product image size, and set up autoselect for the product detail page.
