Disappointed, but an improvement on standard layered navigation
If all you want is a better looking, and faster navigation, then go ahead and use this extension - this is what is does.
what it does not do is this - "SEO optimization: Preventing Google from indexing the pages!"
You have to disallow everything, including ajax in robots.txt. You can achieve the same with layered navigation - just disallow everything in robots.txt! or switch it off altogether. To make the gomage extension work correctly you have to set up robots as if layered navigation was switched off altogether.
So what you are buying is a tool that gives you more choices of colour/presentation, a slicker interface to the user, but you get no SEO benefit whatsoever.
So while it is a big improvement on the standard layered navigation, we bought it to to not 'lose juice' and for SEO purposes. Had we known what we know now, we could have achieved the same for free.
If you read this article http://inchoo.net/online-marketing/magento-seo-how-to-handle-problems-caused-by-layered-navigation/ then the gomage extension will not achieve what people in the discussion are trying to achieve.
A final thought. Be aware that for ajax to work at all you cannot have category pages with just static block, you need to be showing products or products and static block. It reverts to normal layered navigation for that page. This was a headache for us with our main category pages where we didn't want to show products.
NB the whole point of having ajax is to either hide or show all the attributes from the URL. At the moment - you must hide them.

THE BEST "SHOP BY" for magento
***** PLEASE READ *******
This is the best shop by in magento! I have tried three (3) different modules and nothing compares to advanced navigation by GOMAGE. We needed some custom styles done and they were able to implement them right away!
Thanks Yuiry,
Michael

Fantasitc support, & great extension!
The advance nagivation by GoMage is a pretty solid extension add on for magento store's. It works seamlessly with site category and subcategory contents. The ability to customize according to users color scheme, and easy managable backend settings is also a plus.
Although there's still room for improvement, particulary for featured category sections, nonetheless it is a great asset to have for ones webstore.
Customer support staff is highly motivated to satisfy and deliver quality customer experience. I truly respect and honor them for that.

Perfect Service
Bought this extension a couple of months ago and had to make some adjustments. The online chat option was very helpful and the service gomage provides is outstanding

I've seen better support
I bought this extension and although it fulfils my requirements, I must say it doesn't help to ease your mind without worries, when you know that if the developer goes AWOL your website might not function one day because a key won't be able at such point to be verified against the developer's server. For me it's absolutely the last time I'm buying an extension from Magento developer that requires an activation key, it's too risky if his server shuts down.
On another note, the solution you mentioned below for someone else, regarding adding disallow: /*?ajax=1 to robots.txt in order to prevent google's indexing, doesn't seem to work. I did add that, but after my website didn't function or responded at all for an hour, I noticed in the visitor's log that googlebot had been hogging my server''s resources for the past hour while indexing every combination of the products filtering of every single attribute combination. The thing is, I could see that the vast majority of the URLs did not include ajax=1.
Also, when I filter attributes in the layered navigation I don't see the URLs include ajax=1. So I'm not sure why disallowing ajax=1 to robots.txt should stop the indexing by google. Please let us know if anything else can be disallowed in robots.txt in order to stop the indexing.

Good Extension
This extension has been working fine for months.
However for reasons that I am currently unable to determine I came in to work to an "invalid key" error and no ability to browse our catalog.
Regardless of the reasoning, no advanced notice was provided and I find this rather unacceptable. Mission critical extensions shouldn't just shut themselves off with no notice. It could have cost us a lot of revenue if the issue hadn't been caught quickly.

Purchased this plugin to provide advanced filtering functionality, and to an extent it works. Sadly the extension (and support) fails on a major issue: the ajax filters produce unreadable, indexed pages (e.g.
http://navigation.gomage.com/electronics/cameras.html?ajax=1&mode=list). A Google search for "?ajax=1&mode=list" shows more examples.
After alerting GoMage support their eventual "solution" was to add Disallow rules to robots.txt, which fails to address this key problem.

GoMage has excellent support and are adding new features all the time. Highly recommended.
