For those of you who want to include a meta description and meta title you can do this via your local.xml by simply having the following before your closing layout tag:
<action method="setTitle"><title>Your Page Title</title></action>
<action method="setDescription"><description>Your Description</description></action>

What a great extension! Manually installed on 1.6.1 (as per absolutex) then created a new Category and added into the Custom Layout Update the "Content" section from catalogsale.xml. Everything works perfectly and I now have all my sale items displaying correctly (with a custom theme) from may main navigation menu.
