Solved our abandoned cart problems
We were having a lot of problems with the default abandoned cart functionality in Magento. This extension along with Bronto's email delivery system solved all of them. Maybe we got lucky, but we installed and configured this in about a week, and are now sending welcome emails, order confirmations and cart abandons through Bronto. Product review reminders are next.
The extension is a bit complicated to learn at first, but is very powerful. Bronto was helpful in getting it configured. I'm seeing all our data make it over to Bronto without a hitch - including email revenue tracking which is nice.
Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised at how smoothly it went. The Bronto integrator said this latest release (2.2.2) was working really well for everyone they installed it on, so maybe previous versions still had some bugs.

Not reliable extension
We have been using Bronto for over a year. Bronto platform itself is great. However, Magento extension is full with glitches and don't recommend at all. Yesterday, Bronto API site is down and it is effecting our site as well. It is surprised to us and it should not be effecting us at all. Poor design.
Over a year, we have about 15-20 issues. Cost us countless time and frustration. Auto sync is not reliable. We had to manually cross references data time to time.
Overall, extension is poorly designed. Today, we already removed extension and we will use other method to sync data.

Terribly Confusing Module that Doesn't Work
This module is incredibly confusing and doesn't work. We have been trying to get this module working for 3 months paying Bronto extremely high service fees and it just doesn't work. All of our historical customers are going into Bronto as "Transactional" contacts which means that we can't even send them emails from our Newsletters. Additionally 90% of our contacts come over to Bronto with NO customer information, even though we have mapped all of the magento customer attributes to the bronto contact fields.... Errors reported in the cron runs of the module are constant, and we are now 3 months into this with no solution! Bronto's support on this has been abysmal... they don't reply to any email until about 24 hours later, they don't give live chat or telephone support for this, and so I'm stuck waiting a whole day every time I want to ask for support or reply to one of their questions so they can "help" me... and I don't think anyone over there knows how their module works, they can't give me an answer as to why the contacts are not coming in properly. For what these people charge per month, this is an unacceptable service. The module is confusing, it has Newsletter Import vs Contact Import vs Orders Import... and none of it works.

Bronto Rocks - works perfectly, making me money
This is a true plug and play extension. I installed it without any trouble and the configuration was straight forward. I had data passing over to Bronto within 72 hours of installing. It brings over the data in small bites which you can specify so your server won't get bogged down when transferring. We had 200k orders and about 100k customers which took about a solid week to bring over for reference.
We have been using customer previous purchase data for segmentation for a few months now, works awesome. Using this we have a much better grip on matching customers with content and coupons.
I am also using the abandoned cart emails through Bronto which work great and they also included a template upon request which was nice. Bronto has been a great partner for us and this extension makes Bronto much more powerful.

Current version adequate, new version looks great!
We're actually running the current release, which has worked as advertised, but was clearly Bronto's first stab at an integration; it lacked the feature list that we would have wished for had it already been more mature. That said, it did what it did well. After an initial hiccup, the SCA module paid for itself easily and the pull of Magento customers and RFM data was seamless and enabled us to do develop customer segments to deliver relevant messaging.
I'm really looking forward to the new version being added to my install. In particular, I see that the ease-of-use in taking over transactional messaging from Magento and triggering workflows from it as huge. Also, SCA emails can now target guest users as well as logged in ones and the improved push of customer/contact data including Magento segments and groups are going to make a big diference in our ability to provide a consistent customer experience. I'm also looking forward to being able to use wish list data in our segmentation, another new feature in the latest version.
All that's lacking, and I trust that they'll get to it with a future release, would be to market against gift registry data. I'd love to be able to offer promos against items that customers didn't receive from their registries or set up workflows against that data.
Finally, I'd like to recommend Bronto as a company. They really care about their customers' success and align their business practices around it. Any time there has been an issue (blessedly rarely), they take ownership and resolve it in a reasonable timeframe.

Fix for Cron
Here at Cueblocks.com found that there is an issue in the extension:
Cron is not working fine because there is an error in the node path where data are stored.
here the fix:
- edit this file Bronto/Order/Model/System/Config/Backend/Cron.php
use this value:
protected $_cron_string_path = 'crontab/jobs/bronto_order_import/schedule/cron_expr';
protected $_cron_model_path = 'crontab/jobs/bronto_order_import/run/model';

Great Customer Communication Extension
I've really enjoyed working with Bronto. Their software provides a great way to communicate with customers on a deeper level, beyond newsletters or sales emails. Their platform, along with this extension, allows you to send very specific emails based on a variety of customer details.
Want to send customers who spent over $x amount this year a coupon? You can do that. Want to send customers an email about the product they purchased, 5 days after their order is placed? Yep, you can do that, too.
I'm not going to say it's an easy 2-minute setup process. It isn't. It requires planning, hard work, and (in some cases) development resources to make it work the way your company needs or wants it to. What I will say is that it's worth it.
We had a difficult time during initial setup because they had just launched the integration and there were things that should have been there, based on conversations with sales or just plain common sense, but weren't. It was frustrating, but I wanted to make it work and Bronto support wanted to make it work.
There was back and forth, there was waiting for certain features to be released to fully utilize Bronto, and there was even a bit of developer time put in to trigger workflows or pass over contact information (such as first and last name).
And on the Bronto side? There were phone calls where they listened and really tried to understand what we needed, there were features pushed through development based on ways we wanted to use the system, and there were workarounds developed to help us in the meantime.
Even now, when every issue we've run into has been resolved (one way or another), they take all of my calls and are very gracious when dealing with my "I want to make sure this is setup *just* so" personality.
Initial releases are never perfect, but if you work through it and communicate effectively with the company, you'll often find that they are happy to work with you to make the product better. That's exactly what we found here.
We're on the initial release of this extension and, I must say, I'm looking forward to transitioning to the new one (in which they have incorporated some features that were previously missing) and continuing our business relationship with Bronto.
