Highly valuable tool to lower bounce rates
We've noticed a significant drop in bounce rates since using the AddThis Magento extension. Definitely does what we needed it to do.
Only reason it's not receiving a 5 star review is that the suggestions it offers, for the "Recommended For You" functionality, are often pages related to site functions (cookies, cart, contact page, etc).
More than willing to give this 5 stars when it offers the function to restrict itself to only product pages or to select catalog categories the extension will crawl to suggest. Still a magnificent addition for any Magento system - and it's FREE. We know they're using the data to on-sell to earn income but I'd be more than willing to donate or pay/subscribe for a Pro version with more functionality as described above.

Custom theme beware!
Installed this (after testing it's functions on a base theme) on my custom theme store.
Didn't work at all, went to uninstall in connect manager and it's not there.
Now I'm manually removing files.

nice extension, works as promised, a lot of customization capabilities and the control panel back to the developer's site is good - thank you

Installation is smooth and works great out of box. Nice features and love the updated icons (also love the ability to use your own if desired).

A revision to my previous comment
I would like to make a revision to the previous statement.
With much more review of why this could possibly not show up we noticed that the div tags were in place. This is what led us to begin testing on more than just our browsers.
We heavily use ad blocking software within our work environment and add exceptions accordingly. We have not normally seen such plugins receive a block... however, after we disabled adblock and added an exception to the site in question... there it was.
So, the end result is that the extension does work on custom templates.. just make sure your paths are correct and everything should be juice after that.
If you aren't seeing the images in the back-end.. check if you have adblocking enabled.. then make the proper exceptions.. using Comodo? .. Make sure it has the allowed privileges for your site (or that privdog has them). 9 times out of 10.. this appears to be the case. The developers could possibly add some bypassing exclusion in the code such as avoiding items with phrasing such as "ad" and all should be fine.
Sorry for my previous review.. however.. poor developer support still stands as is.. BAD.
Hope this helps those with issues.

Custom Template? Ignore this extension
I am not a rough critic nor do I spend my days looking for negative things to say on others hard work. I am however going to give an honest critique to this extension.
If you are running (whatever version) a custom theme with heavy changes to the default Magento layout then you are more than likely going to have a non-working extension on your hands that you are now left with no other option than removing from your install.
Although it would be wonderful to have this built in by default to Magento and this extension when working is more than likely a treat.. custom templates just need to work on adding in the default code provided by your AddThis account.
Addthis supplies next to none in terms of support.. questions get answered with additional queries such as "May we know your version?" .. please keep in mind.. the version of the Magento install in question was included in the first place.. thus, hinting at a lack of vested interest by the support.. they simply do not read the queries.. then ask a question already stated.. answering them back results in your question being closed and no other answers given.
To put it short.. it is far from their scope of support if you are installing this on a custom template. They will not state this.. rather they will close topic and dissolve your query in a mountain of other similar queries.
I wish this would had worked as it would had been a more simple method.
I cannot nor will not recommend this extension as they are not transparent. Furthermore, the lack of documentation for this extension shows the lack of caring and/or enthusiasm for this project.
Sorry AddThis team.. this is just a waste of time.

Good but needs in depth installation for custom templates
After a thorough search I finally found out how to implement the extension on my custom template. I'm somewhat of a Magento rookie and therefore I see it as a good service to provide a proper installation guide to templates other than standard Magento.. But for people who cannot make it function properly - make sure the addthis/ folder is placed under your /app/design/frontend/*yourtemplate*/default/template/ folder..
Then you can add the <?php echo $this->getLayout()->createBlock('sharingtool/share')->setBlockId('addthis_sharetool')->toHtml(); ?> to your view.phtml file under the catalog folder...
Perhaps this is logical for some but for "none savy" Magento users it should have been explained more properly.
But when it works it works good. So thank you for a fine extension..

Can`t find template file. Don`t work.
After install i can`t find add this button on the any pages of my site. I try insert this ( <?php echo $this->getLayout()->createBlock('sharingtool/share')->setBlockId('addthis_sharetool')->toHtml(); ?> ) code into template file (phtml). After that my site is crach with next error: "Warning: include(): Filename cannot be empty in /home/fedyay/projects/wah/httpdocs/app/code/core/Mage/Core/Block/Template.php on line 241".
After debug a found problem. Template file "/app/design/frontend/base/default/template/addthis/sharingtool/share.phtml" is missing.
Magento Community 1.8.
Please fix this bug.
With best regards, Yury.

Can't get to work with theme
I am also using the ultimo theme and cannot seem to get this plugin to work. The interface looks great and seems simple enough. I have added <?php echo $this->getLayout()->createBlock('sharingtool/share')->setBlockId('addthis_sharetool')->toHtml(); ?> to template files with no luck.

Doesn't work on our install
We're on 184.108.40.206 and the install through MagentoConnect went fine.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get this working, although I added the required line of code to the view.phtml file of our theme.
I contacted the support and got an answer within one day, asking me to provide Magento version and the URL to my store.
After sending the required information I never heard back.
Not sure if it's a problem with the latest release, just thought I'll let the community know.
