I need to redeem coupon even with empty cart to make digital gift to customers of a real life shop. I modified the core controller commenting the lines blocking the parsing if shopping cart is empty but then I cannot make any cart rules that will be apply.
I tried to leave blank or to check the number of product => 0 but it always say that the coupon is not valid and only if i add a product then the coupon is applied. which rule is needed? I have to modify some other code?

Works for me really well - many thanks!. For everyone who does not see their gift in the actions drop down you need to enable the extension in System>>Configuration>>Sales>>GiftPromo

Nice Extension - works like a charm.
But i noticed a small bug. If you try to update the amount of the free gift above the available stock amout you will get an magento error.
Is it possible to remove the amount input-field, as well as the delete button in the cart?

Same problem for me as many others! installations went smooth, no problems in backend & frontend! Able to make a gift product, but cant find the gift back in the dropdown in cart & catalog rules!
Please help! This plugin looks great!

Thanks for this extension, I have been trying out and it works just as expected, not having any issues at all with Magento 18.104.22.168
I just have a question, is there any way that the user can select between different gifts instead of just applying one particular item to be the gift?
I tried adding a configurable product as the gift, so that the user would be able to select between different options, but I'm getting an error ("Error log record number: 2068097781") when adding items to the cart, and it won't add the gift at all. Is there any other way where I can allow the buyers to select the gift they want to choose? Thanks in advance for your hard work!
