Cookie Law Compliance - EU / UK - Implied Consent

UK/ EU Cookie Law Notice Magento Module

"Implied consent is a valid form of consent and can be used in the context of compliance with the revised rules on cookies." - ICO Website

The Information Commissioner's Office stated that 'implied consent' is sufficient to comply with the EU Cookie Law. Now, you do not have to use other Magento Cookie Law extensions that make you wait for your visitors to agree to be tracked before you can get any Analytics data from them. Use this Cookie Law extension to show your visitors that by using your website, they permit you to set cookies in their browser. This extension displays a fully customisable message for your Magento website to comply with the EU cookie law.

1. Installation

  1. Get the Magento Connect extension key and install it through Magento Connect (recommended)
  2. Download the app and skin folders from GitHub and upload them to your Magento root folder

PLEASE NOTE

  • Backup Magento's files and database. It is best practice to backup the database and files, just in case something goes wrong and you need to rollback. Always try the module on a development site and deploy to a live site only after you have fully tested it.

  • Disable Compilation. Magento's compilation feature is wonderful! However, it needs to be switched off before installing new modules. If you forget to do so, use the command line to recompile. http://www.kathirvel.com/magento-compile-clear-enable-and-disable-compilation-via-ssh/

  • Getting a 404 error. As with the installation of all Magento modules, please clear the cache folders before and after module installation. Log out of the Admin area and log back in. Please also flush your CSS and JS caches.

This module has been tested and big fixed to the best possible extent. Let us know if you come across any problems or issues and we will endeavour to fix it in an upcoming release.

2. Configuration

The settings for this module can be accesses through the Admin menu - Optimise Web >> Cookie Notice Settings or through System >> Configuration >> Optimise Web >> Cookie Law (EU / UK) Notice.

After installation, you will see a message appear on the front-end of your website. The settings are straight forward and self explanatory.

This extension does not add additional jQuery or any other javascript libraries. It uses Magento's core cookie class and the javascript libraries bundled with Magento.

3. Customisation

We have set the colours and fonts to inherit the site's look and feel. The background colour of the notice is set to grey. Your designer or developer would be able to customise this further to suit your desired look and feel.

Template file - /app/design/frontend/base/default/template/optimiseweb/cookienotice/cookienotice.phtml

CSS file - /skin/frontend/base/default/css/cookienotice.css

Please make a copy of the files and drop your customisation under your template or theme folder. If you edit this file directly, you might lose all customisations when upgrading this extension.

Important:

To be able to develop the module further and provide better support, we capture your Magento version, module version, admin URL and admin email address when you access the admin > module settings page. We do not share this data with anyone. We do not use this data to send you marketing communication. We do this purely for support and statistical purposes.

If you do not agree to this, please do not install the module. Or, write to us to request a bespoke version of the module.

Good one... As described... also the response from the developer is as lightning.... fast and to the point.. February 12, 2015
Works fine ! Functionalities as described. The only drawback is the link in the menu and a position in the configuration that are not relevant. November 3, 2014
Works well, without any fuss This extension works well, and is well supported. Author even added the option to remove the top level menu item for just this one module if you choose, which I was impressed with. Not much else to say - it works well, and doesn't conflict with anything else installed on our site. Regards a previous review comment about Lesti::FPC incompatibility - you just need to add "optimiseweb_cookienotice" to Dynamic Blocks. October 21, 2014
Easy, clean and fast support I was having problems with magentos' built-in cookies restriction mode. That is, customers need to allow the use of cookies (lot of them don't), otherwise cookies are not loaded and you are not tracking customers in your Analytics account. This extension shows the notice, helps you to style it and works as expected. Support is fast! was real-time for me... Thanks for this free extension ;) October 21, 2014
works great it is also compatible with magento 1.9. It works fine for me, usefully and easy October 7, 2014
It doesn't work with varnish Hi, this extensions doesn't work with varnish by default. Is it possible to enable it? September 21, 2014
Good Very simple to implemente and customize. Good work. July 24, 2014
Doesn't work with Lesti FPC Or do you know how to fix it? It just keeps coming back on each page, pretty annoying. We have added blocks but that did not help: cookienotice_container, global_cookie_notice, July 10, 2014
Great and Quickly Quickly installation and good documentation with screenshots March 30, 2014
Nice extension, but latest update adds itself to main menu! Been using this extension for a few months, it does exactly what it says it does. However, the most recent update has meant it now adds itself to the main menu in the Magento backend! I'm sorry but this extension isn't comprehensive enough to justify adding itself to the main menu - it is just a cookie notice. There is no reason it can't just exist within the System -> Configuration page For that reason I'm giving it 3 stars. February 14, 2014

Answer:
We have the same problem. Message keep's showing when pressed on a logo of the store (home). We use Evolved caching, nginx, varnish...
Cookie is present (either show, closed, hidden... states)

Any solution to that?

Answer:
You could have a problem with the browser not allowing you to save cookies. So, even though you close it the browser is not setting the cookie. I would have to see the site and setup to give a better answer.

Immediately after installing this extension, after logging out of the admin, then going to log in, the login screen only refreshes with no errors. After some expert googling, it people were saying it is cookie related. Have you encountered this before? is it easily solved?

Answer:
Your designer or developer would be able to customise this further to suit your desired look and feel.

Template file - /app/design/frontend/base/default/template/optimiseweb/cookienotice/cookienotice.phtml

CSS file - /skin/frontend/base/default/css/cookienotice.css

Please make a copy of the files and drop your customisation under your template or theme folder. If you edit this file directly, you might lose all customisations when upgrading this extension.

Pop-up correctly appears on every page, but not on the homepage.

Which could be the reason?

Thanks

Answer:
I wouldn't be able to comment without looking at the site and setup. Most likely, the cache needs to be refreshed. You could be using a page/template.phtml that doesn't have the body_before_end block where the module is set to appear.

Hi my problem is that I install the module in Magento 1.9 and set it up correctly, I update the cache but still not displayed in the fronted.
It may be because you have to write code in some file? which one?

Thank You
