Google Content API for Shopping

Google has retired its old Google Base Data API and replaced it with its new Google Content API for Shopping to let back-end staff more effectively upload and manage product and catalog information. This extension allows developers to migrate their eCommerce stores into the new API to ensure that they come up in Google searches.

  • Replaces current Google Base API logic in Magento
  • Allows developers to define which products are sent to Google
  • Enables definition of how product attributes are mapped to Google

Everything is out of stock... Extension is promising. But if you give something to community, why don't you write 1 page instructions? It looks simple but there are major flaws. If you don't want to cry for days, buy an extension. Because you will spend days till you solve your problems. Beware: Configurable products will be out of stock. There is no way to prevent that... So it is pointless to use this extension for configurable product stores such as clothing stores. May 30, 2013
Definite Shortcomings This extension installed fine for me, but I cannot get the products to sync up to google shopping. There are no errors generated, and there is no support for this module without buying a support contract. Also, if you want to add static values for any of the mappings to google, that isn't a feature that is available in this module. The alternative is adding a new attribute to all of your products and assigning it a value, which is a lot of unnecessary work. Also, if you want to find documentation for google base, there is some that is on the magento go website, but other than that, it's forums. April 29, 2013
Real Big Issue I have been using this extension for months but now it just gives the error message "One or more google shopping synchronization operations failed because of timeout." i cant add more than 8 products at a time, not great when you have 4000 products to submit. i have tried all the solutions i can find and still not working Does any one know a solution for this? April 15, 2013
Error : Google Content ID or Not Sync yet Hi I have installed the extension as described by one of my friend and setup google merchant for it. Extension installed successfully In Attribute I added Price, Description and Title When selected products from "Manage Item" and added to Google Content which was also a successful step. No issue i am facing here when I submit for Synchronise it does it successfully and i recv following email "Product synchronization with Google Shopping completed Total of 0 items(s) have been deleted; total of 1 items(s) have been updated." Now, I can not see anything happening, all product are still in "Google Content Items" and my products do not have Google Content ID yet. Please let me know if i have done something or missed any step Awaiting your reply Regards KAHU April 7, 2013
image not imported to google shopping all is fine and exported well without images and i cant find image attribute on manage shopping attribute mapping.. how to assign image link ? Thank you April 3, 2013
Nice Extension Thank you for this useful extension. Just one problem, the product image is not posted, I read the instruction, it says image_link should be default attribute? but its just not showing in Google merchant. March 31, 2013
Horrible I installed it on Magento 1.7.0 and I lost Google Checkout functionality completely. There is no google checkout button at all. Not to mention that none of the products was able to export to google. I have no idea what to do now... No support as well. March 21, 2013
Works as advertised You have to know what you're doing, unfortunately, but it works well. Setup: 1) Create your Google Merchant Account: http://www.google.com/merchants/default - Then copy your Account ID, email address and password into step 2. Verify and Claim your site, add shipping and tax rules in Google. 2) System/Configuration/Shopping/Google API - Fill in the blanks. 3) Catalog/Google Content/Manage Attributes - Map at least your Name, Description, and Price 4) Catalog/Google Content/Manage Items - Add your items. If it fails, read the error messages at the top of your Magento store. March 18, 2013
Poor documentation and difficult setup Getting my Magento store products onto Google merchant , google shopping has been the single most over complicated experience in all of my working with Magento. This extension is significantly better than other options, but it is so poorly documented that it is infuriating. Some of this problem is not the devleopers, but Google's problem, their merchant center is the slowest, most poorly supported Google Product I have ever used. I had to make a number of changes to our Robots.txt file to allow Google to spider our site, and after that, it finally accepted one out of 40 products, that are nearly identical except for size variations. The sync and review process are crazy slow. Also it should be more clearly document in the extension, not so lost pdf the process for setting up mappings. We sell industrial products that do not have UPC or EAN codes, so creating strong identifies had to happen before we could use this. March 5, 2013
Configserver blocks Google Merchant on port 443 I am using Google API extension to import our my products from Magento shopping cart to Google Merchant. Everything was running okay when ConfigServer was in testing mode. However, I got the following error when I enabled ConfigServer Firewall. Errors happened during synchronization with Google Shopping Cannot update 1 items. The item "XXXX" cannot be updated at Google Content. Unable to connect to Google Content. Please, check Account settings in configuration.Error: Unable to Connect to ssl: //www.google.com:443. Error #110: Connection timed out. my domain is www.liverdoctor.com and my shopping cart at shop.liverdoctor.com. We are using VPS of Godaddy's company. I have checked the port 443 and open_ssl extension on my server. They are enabled and running. I added www.google.com to csf.dyndns file and I added the following IP ranges to csf.allow 216.239.32.0/19 # Googlebot 64.233.160.0/19 # Googlebot 72.14.192.0/18 # Googlebot 209.85.128.0/17 # Googlebot 66.102.0.0/20 # Googlebot 74.125.0.0/16 # Googlebot 66.249.64.0/19 #Googlebot However, Google Merchant still can't access my folders and data. Now I have to disable ConfigServer to let Google Merchant access my website and it puts my server to danger's situation. Could anyone help me please? I appreciate for your help. Thanks in advanced. Answer:
Unfortunately don't work, because store's currency are incorrect.

"The store's currency should be set to US Dollar for United States in system configuration. Otherwise item prices won't be correct in Google Content."

    BadAuthentication

    Hello,

I've been using your Google Content API extension from its early days, quite happy with it. However, when I installed its latest version on Magento v1.7.0.1, I'm getting this "...Unable to connect to Google Content. Please, check Account settings in configuration.Error: Authentication with Google failed. Reason: BadAuthentication" error although all account settings are correctly set in config. Do you know anything about this problem?

I think it is worth mentioning that I've been able to add products to Google Shopping using that same Google account but using different extension (which actually uses an online service for submitting to google and other comparison shopping sites), so I don't think the problem might be in the Google account itself.

Any help or insight into this problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Robert

I had the same problem. Here is the solution for the badauthentification issue: in your Google account settings go to the menu Security and allow all apps (also the not so secure ones) access to your account.

Now, that this problem is solved I am faced with the required_destination one. Let's see there surely is a solution for this one as well...

    Answer:
We've all had this problem from time to time.

Sounds like there is a maintenance flag.

There will be a file called maintenance.flag on the home directory on you server.

Delete that file and you're good to go. What happens is why you install applications, you site has this temporary flag and then deletes it. If for some reason you already had the program, or something else made the program not run as intended, the flag gets left.

    Hope this helps!

We are an apparel / clothing company with many different sizes of our clothing. We want to use Google Product Listing Ads but we are struggling to get it setup correctly. We added required fields such as Color, Gender, Age Group, Size to the Google Content Shopping > Manage Attributes for the relevant product types.

But, we are using configurable products with simple products (not visible in catalog / search) attached to do the sizing for variants. So, when we upload the products to Google base, the simple products upload fine as they have all the correct attributes, but they fail the upload for the configurable product because it doesn't have a size associate to it.

So, does the product feed that this creates automatically set an "item group id" like google suggests for product "variants"?

How should this situation be handled to get them all uploaded.

    Answer:
    Don't upload the configurable at all. We added a new attribute "item_group_id" and filled it manually for every simple product with the SKU of the configurable. And did the mapping for the item group id. it shouldn_t be that large effort to do this automtically in code I think, like pseudo code: if (is_simple) {itemgroup_id=configurable->sku()}
I am not sure, but it seems to me it is not that problem to just upload one simple product per configurable and leave the other sizes out. your product will be found regardless of the size submitted. I don't find a field in google shopping where one can choose the size, nor do I think someone uses this. A normal customer just searches, looks at the pictures, and then clicks. (Just assumption)
We also submit the "name" of the configurable product instead of the name of the simple product.

Why is it no possible to choose "Custom" under the Google Attribute set mapping.

I now can only select from this list:

    Apparel & Accessories
    Apparel & Accessories - Clothing
    Apparel & Accessories - Shoes
    Media - Books
    Media - DVDs & Videos
    Media - Music
    Software - Video Game Software
    Other

However Google also has a group Custom for custom made products that don't need to contain any id's (UPC, EAN, JAN or MPN).

My problem now is that when I sync, my products in Google Shop, it gives me error's back because the Id's are not valid.

Is there any solution to fix this or is there a workaround ?

Hi, I've been using this great extension for months. But a few months ago my feed file on google merchant has dissappeared.

Extension is updated, configuration is ok and checked...

I think I'd never had to manually add a feed on google merchant...

On magento, everything seems to be ok. All products added and syncronized and added to my google shopping account.

    What can I do?

    Thank you
