To fix permission issue with this module go to file app/code/community/Uni/Fileuploader/etc/config.xml and update the <acl>-----</acl> ( acl tag) with :
<acl><resources><all><title>Allow Everything</title></all><admin><children><catalog><children><fileuploader><title>Fileuploader Module</title><sort_order>10</sort_order></fileuploader>

The creator of this extension does not answer any emails. We cannot add the module as a role resource. This module should be pulled if the creator has disappeared.

I installed the extension on magento CE 188.8.131.52 but when I go to edit an attachment that has been added it comes up with the following:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function __() in /home/alexandr/public_html/lib/Varien/Data/Form/Element/Fileuploader.php on line 74
If anyone has any idea why this is happening please PM me. Thanks.

Worked for me on 184.108.40.206. Added bradclampitt's solution to my theme's catalog.xml file, flushed cache (especially Block Type - very important!) and it now shows a new "Downloads" tab.

For those who are having problems installing this and getting it to work... it could be because you are not using the default theme. If you are using a custom or alternative theme than default than you will need to copy your files over to your theme as they are in the /default/ folder as well as you will want to go to page #2 (currently) and look at a post by Superskunk who explains how to do it for v1.7 which it also works for v220.127.116.11.
--- his comments --:
If it will not show in the frontend try this:
Open your catalog.xml file (i.e.: \app\design\frontend\base\default\layout\catalog.xml)
Around line 209 you will find the "product.info.tabs" tag.
There you can add a new tab for the attachments.
Add this line:
<action method="addTab" translate="title" module="catalog"><alias>attachmentstabbed</alias><title>Downloads</title><block>fileuploader/fileuploader</block><template>fileuploader/attachments.phtml</template></action>
At the moment I use Magento 18.104.22.168 and this module works perfekt.
