What are Google Merchant and Google Shopping ?
What is Google Shopping ?
Google Shopping is a free Google service that allows users to find and compare products they want to buy online. If your are online merchant, you can submit your products to Google Shopping to help your final customers to find your website more quickly and more easily.
Google Merchant Center is an interface designed for store owners and sellers to help them to submit their items to Google Shopping.
How to create my Google Merchant Account ?
In order to submit your products to Google Merchant you need first to sign up for an account in Google Merchant. You will find all informations you need by following the link bellow : http://www.google.com/support/merchants/bin/answer.py?hl=fr&answer=188924
This account will allow you to access to the Google Merchant Center interface where you will be able to indicate your product data feeds and to plan some daily, weekly or monthly updating tasks.
What is a product data feed ?
A data feed is a file made up from a grouping of attributes that define each one of your products in a unique way that allows customers to search and find your items. This file is built like a classic RSS data feed with some specific XML tags used by Google Merchant Center.

How to create a products data feed ?
Simple Google Shopping and Data Feed Manager are two Magento extensions which allow you to configure, generate and automate several product data feeds in a few minutes.
Once Simple Google Shopping or Data Feed Manager extensions have been installed in your Magento web store, go to your Magento admin panel and select the Google Shopping / Data Feed Manager item in the catalog menu.
Both, include some default configuration which will help you to create your first product data feed. You can also create a new empty configuration or copy any existing configuration.

A closing tag must always match the most recent opening tag in the feed. For example, this XML would generate an "XML Tag Mismatch" error: lt;g:event_dateTimegt; lt;g:fromgt;2005-12-20T14:00:00 lt;g:togt;2005-12-20T19:00:00lt;/g:togt; lt;/g:event_dateTimegt; The XML generates an error because the attribute tag lt;g:fromgt; doesn't have a matching end-tag lt;/g:fromgt;.
