Better Store Search 29 29Wow I lurked around this extension for several months, we have a site dealing with office supplies and a lot of other stuff, around 12000 articles, magento searches for "Red file cabinet" usually returned a red cup, a nail file (yes we sell those) and a rubber duck... (we don´t even sell those). The extension is prohibitively expensive but it is worth the money, performing searches now (sadly) produces no rubber ducks but google style results. We had a problem with conflicting extensions and support was quick, capable and courteous. But my wallet hurts.... Especially since i will probably have to purchase this for our other sites. A lot of bang for the buck. At our Dutch multi domain webshops with lot's of products it works very, very well. Search results are dramatically improved and as result sales also. It saves money because we have less phone calls. Support of Better Store Search team is excellent, friendly and quick. And best of all, this extension is still being improved. If you take your business serious, you should buy this one, no doubt. November 20, 2012I'm *extremely* satisfied with Better Store Search. My site has a lot of hyphenated model numbers, which is fine as long as my customers know exactly where the hyphen belongs. Problem is, they don't always seem to know. To make it worse, lots of folks seem to replace hyphens with spaces for some reason. Magento won't return results in either case. Better Store Search handles hyphens as well as spaces in the search terms *flawlessly*. As an added benefit that I wasn't expecting to be a big deal is that BSS also handles pluralizations. After reviewing customer searches and their results (or lack thereof), the pluralization handling is definitely helping. BSS offers manually weighted product pages so they appear higher in the search results. To be completely honest, I haven't yet seen the need to manually weight any of my 1500 product pages. BSS *always* gets the targeted product page in the top three results, and the majority of the time it correctly places the product page as the first result. BSS is not a cheap extension, but in my case, it was a bargain. The alternative for me was to write a Perl script to manually spider the different pages using my sitesearch.xml file. I already have a script I wrote for my old static site which had the majority of code needed to do this. Still, BSS saved me countless hours of coding time and works much better than my solution would have, as I would have needed to tweak it every time I updated my sitemap file. In short, BSS is one of two Magento extensions I view as absolutely essential. Very, very well done! September 13, 2012Do not hesitate to get this extension. Instant improvement on every search over the standard magento search. BSS had a conflict with another third party module and the these guys actually spent the time to get in and figure out a solution (no such help from the other extension supplier) at no charge. No regrets here, thanks BSS! August 23, 2012I requested for an additional help about how to change the search criteria to use AND instead of OR. They replied back with a link which explained the feature was to be changed via Magento and not their extension. The link also had an easy to follow step by step instruction on how to make the adjustment. After making the change, I assumed it was complete and Sweet Tooth would assume it was done as well if they didn't hear back from me. Couple of days later, they emailed me back to follow-up if my issue was resolved. I admit, I was surprised because customer service like this doesn't exist anymore. Thanks! July 11, 2012BSS is a great value for the cost-conscious website that needs a better search than the *terrible* Magento default. On our site, which has a "freemium"-style program, it has also enabled us to favor certain products in the search results. The support team is extremely helpful as well. It will also suggest corrections for minor spelling errors, but only for terms that closely match a product title. What it is: A reasonable step up from Magento's default search algorithm, and the cheapest extension that's actually worth getting. What it is not: A "silver bullet". This is a low-cost solution. Don't expect your results to be perfect or exactly how you envision them. July 10, 2012This is a very useful extension with great customer support. They helped me throughout my installation and really made sure that everything was working to my standards. How/where can i translate "did you mean" text?

Avatar Image Url:: http://www.magentocommerce.com/images/avatars/uploads/avatar_26612056Answer:The "Did you mean" would be modified to Your Local Language in your translation CSV file titled "TBT_Bss.csv", as would all other unique phrases to Better Store Search. They are located under "app/locale/en_US/TBT_Bss.csv". Proceed to take the following steps to transition BSS to your EXISTING local languages translation file (installed using the Magento translation files).
1) Copy the "TBT_Bss.csv" file, and paste it in your languages locale, which should be located under "app/locale/language_COUNTRY" as your country's translation file (be it Germany, Switzerland, etc.).
2) Open this newly copied over TBT_Bss.csv. The format of the file is like this: “Phrase in English”,”Phrase in English”.'
3) To translate to your language, change the second instance of the English translation to the equivalent word or phrase in your language (after the comma): “Phrase in English”,”Phrase in Your Language”. Clear your cache. And your all set!
