Customer Activation
This small extension makes it impossible for a customer to log in to magento, until the account has been activated in the adminhtml interface: Customers > Manage Customers > (select customer) > Account Information > Is activated
Please open an issue on github if you encounter any problems.
It was designed to be used together with the Netzarbeiter_LoginCatalog extension. Netzarbeiter_LoginCatalog only shows products to customers that are logged in.
There also is the Extension Netzarbeiter_GroupsCatalog2 which may suit your needs better, you have to evaluate yourself what is the best solution for your case.You can disable the Extension on a global or website level using the options found under System > Configuration > Customer > Customer Activation
You can select email notifications for the admin (when a new customer registers) and for the customer (when her account has been activated).
Sample email templates in english, german and italian are provided.KNOWN BUGS: - None :D

Customer Activation 55 55It's exactly what i have searched for a long time. I don't use the feature of account activation, i just install the module dor the email notification about a new customer registration....:) I set to auto activate Accounts a it's all done!!!!! November 28, 2012I installed this extension today. Very easy and smooth through Magento Connect. Using CE 1.7. Works exactly as published. It let's someone register an account, but does not activate it unless approved by an administrator. It shows up in the customer mgt area, and it works flawlessly. I have used it all day, testing and trying to break it, but it is solid, and works perfectly. Being FREE just made my day. After searching for hours, THANK YOU for this extension. Keep up the good work Vinai! November 15, 2012Great extension and works perfectly on 1.7.0.2! Is there anyway to automatically enable certain customer groups and only have to verify customers from a particular group. For example all customers in retail group should activate automatically but ones in Wholesale group should be looked at first and then enabled? I've installed this extension but can't get it to work.
If i try to make a new account, I get the next three errors:
"Email" is not a valid hostname.
'<emailhost>.com' appears to be a DNS hostname but cannot match TLD against known list
'<emailhost>.com' appears to be a local network name but local network names are not allowed
I have absolutely no idea what either of these are supposed to mean.

Secondly I would like to say that the activation/confirmation option is rather confusing. On a customer page in the admin, there was already a drop-down box "Is confirmed?" with the options "Confirmed" and "Not confirmed". This extension has apparently added a second box "Is activated" (->yes/no), but why? Why not using the "Is confirmed?" one that was already there anyway?

first, the email checks have nothing to do with the extension.
Second, the email confirmation is part of the core Magento functionality and can also be configured in the system configuration.
Third, the email where the admin notification is sent can be configured in the modules system configuration options.
