Improve your store SEO results by fine tuning the information in your XML Sitemap!
This is a Pro version of our XML Sitemap extension with some advanced functionality.
Just released the new feature to submit your store sitemap(s) to major search engines!
The XML Sitemap functionality in Magento (aka Google Sitemap) is a pretty powerful tool to get your store properly indexed by major search engines.
However by default Magento generates the sitemap that has last modification date for every single page in your store set to the date when you generated the sitemap. This is a major drag on your web site as Google (or other search engines) do not know which products are new ones, and which are old ones. So they have to re-scan your entire web site to get the products indexed. The unwanted side effect of this is that it takes up to two weeks to have your new products to appear on Google.
The XML Sitemap Pro Magento Extension by Activo replaces the default Magento sitemap functionality, and includes the (last modification date) attribute with the correct date when each product or category was last updated. It also allows you to set up different priority attribute for your product pages as opposed to the categories and CMS pages, so your product would have a higher priority and show up first.
This helps Google, Bing and other search engines to know which products are new to index them first. As a result of this your new products will appear in search results much faster since Google will crawl and index them first!
This is a must have extension for any serious store owner!
XML Sitemap Magento Extension by Activo (FREE) uses Magento Connect Manager interface.
Installation process is very simple. Just follow these steps:
Please read this first if you are using Apple Safari to download the installation package. By default Safari tries to open the "safe" file extensions, this includes the .tgz packages. Therefore it will uncompress the package upon download and will make it unfit for Magento Connect. To prevent this behavior in the menu bar, go Safari -> Preferences. In the "General" tab, uncheck "Open 'safe' files after downloading". This will stop Safari from automatically unzipping the files. Read more on Stack Exchange here.

Installing Magento Extensions Using Connect Manager
Once extension is installed it would automatically change the Magento default XML sitemap generation functionality. To configure advanced options, go to System / Configure menu item and select XML Sitemaps Pro at the right menu in the ACTIVO EXTENSIONS section. There you can select the priority for each type of the pages as well as set up a special case handling for the storefront homepage if necessary. You can also enable the automatic XML Sitemap generation and set au a schedule for it. This would automatically generate the new sitemap every day (or whatever other schedule you select) to reflect any changes in your products and categories...
After installing the XML Sitemap Pro extension you might want to go to the Catalog / Google Sitemap and click "Generate" next to your main store sitemap to make sure you generate the latest sitemap using the new functionality.
There is also a new function in the XML Sitemaps Pro Magento Extension where you can submit your store sitemap(s) to major search engines.
First you need to configure the search engines you want to submit your site to. For that, go to Catalog / XML Sitemap Pro / Targeted Search Engines. There you can just click Add Default Set button to add the default set of major search engines. You can also add additional search engines if you know their sitemap submission URL (usually it would be in the format: "search_engine_url.com/ping=" or something like that).
Once the search engines are configured you can go to Catalog / XML Sitemap Pro / Sitemap Submissions and click Submit Now button there.
