I am troubleshooting a data migration from os commerce to Magento. I have yet to confirm this but it appears that when importing customer records into magento with the newsletter field set to yes that the magento system emailed all those customers an email that only said “Newsletter Subscription Success”

Is there a cron that runs on that or how does that happen. I’m trying to track down the process that did this so it doesn’t happen again.

Just thought I’d put it out there for others to see if they have the same issue or not.

Completed Os Commerce Migration results http://www.magentocommerce.com/group/blog/action/viewpost/386/group/175/

I’m gearing up for our move from OS Commerce to magento.

There has been some brief discussion on the migration in the community but I’m wondering in general how the migration went for others.

Here are some questions that I want to know (and might be helpful for others):

How long did it take you to get things from OS Commerce to Magento and then have the store live and running on Magento?

What was the most painful part of the process? Design, Data migration, urls, categories, payment setup, shipping, products, custom needs etc?

What data were you able to bring over from os commerce using the migration tool? What did you have to manually bring over?

What was something unexpected that took a lot of time that you hadn’t anticipated?

How many people have successfully migrated to Magento?

Thanks for your help and posts

Exporting and Importing Data from Os Commerce http://www.magentocommerce.com/group/blog/action/viewpost/234/group/175/

Our Web site has been on os Commerce for a few years now and I’m wanting to move the ecommerce to magento over the next couple of months. I’m going to be looking into methods of exporting data from our databases and importing it into Magento. I’m wondering how hard this will be and if there are already some tools that have been addressed or currently exist.

I’m thinking an sql query script to pull data and then a script which will map it to the correct tables in magento. Perhaps xml… although I’m not as familiar with xml.

Excited to work on this and see some positive results.

Maintaining URL Compatibility http://www.magentocommerce.com/group/blog/action/viewpost/228/group/175/

I run more than a dozen stores on the osCommerce engine.  Most of them are in the same database using the multi-stores contribution.  One of my concerns in switching is that I’d like my old URLs to still work.  I would think that through a SQL import you would be able to maintain the same product and category IDs through the transition and then just add support into your .htaccess file to translate those URLs to the proper magento calls.

Is anyone else planning on importing your products and categories in a way that the category and product IDs will be maintained?  Do you even think this is important?  I’m sure the other features of Magento would make up for whatever transitional pains we have to go through to get switched over, but it sure would be great to move forward and not spend a month or two dealing with loose ends.
