Dan, the project is not off. We are waiting on some features to be implemented into version 1.1. When there is more information it will be posted in this group. If you are in a hurry, I suggest you go with another ecommerce system or just hang tight! smile

Also, I appreciate you trying to keep up with the project, but please don’t post new “blog entries” like this. That’s what comments are for, and I do respond to them.

Thanks!

Thanks! I’m not in a hurry--just a preliminary research query for potential clients. Sorry, I didn;t see the comment function.

FYI, T-HUB says they are developing a product for Magento and are looking for people with Magento sites who want to test it.

Personally, I think T-Hub is too bloated to be of much value. This project’s goal is to streamline the sync process and make it quick and simple. Plus you don’t have to pay for the bloat. You just gotta have some patience cool smile

I have read good reviews of T-HUB and unless I find something better, I am planning to use it with LiveCart because it supports the import of properly formatted CSV files.

I’m looking at it from the position of someone who has an existing (non-Magento) storefront that needs to tie into Quickbooks. Should I just do that with T-HUB or take the time to get a better ecommerce system like Magento? If I want to maximize integration of my online applications, Joomla is attractive: good extensible CMS+Virtuemart which can output to Quickbooks. And it appears some people are working on Magento integration for Joomla.

Well, assuming you like T-Hub, and you’d only need to change the adapter once you go with Magento, you may want to wait until Magento improves anyway. Your need for Magento really depends on how dissatisfied you are with the existing cart, how much time and know-how you have to invest in learning how to use it, how much traffic your site gets, and how good your webserver is.

Magento will certainly see performance improvements over time, but currently there are other systems out there that are better in the area of performance. Magento’s current strengths are flexibility, and out-of-the-box features. But it certainly has plenty of room to grow.

I have a client who has had issues with Magento being a resource hog during high-traffic periods, even though we’ve optimized the site on the frontend and he’s running on a good dedicated server. But that’s digg for ya. I am looking forward to testing version 1.1, but in particular we are planning on using the API to interface QB with M.

Dan, Scott’s advice is definitely good. Magento may in fact be overkill for some people and I think that is the case with me.  Ease of management of the store along with front end performance are the things that are most important to me. I like(d) Magento’s backend admin, it’s clean and uncluttered. If you like the way it performs, go with it. It has quite a huge following already. And I’m sure the Quickbooks sync thing will come about at some point. I’m also going to be doing a Joomla integration, but I’m about 80% sure at this point I will not be using Magento. I’ve read great reviews of T-HUB so without having used it, I’m sure it’s probably a solid product.

I am researching this as well.  What about http://www.aaatex.com/QuickBooks_Shopping_Cart_Integrator_Prices.htm
they may be able to do it.  I am not a programmer (end-user) - so I am not able to fully analyze this solution, can someone else here tell me what they think?

Thanks!

btrader, anyone here can go with any solution they want… assuming it integrates with Magento. And I’m assuming there isn’t much out there that does. However, it’s up to you if you want to pay for it or use this free module when it becomes available.

Hope that helps!

hearsay, you haven’t missed anything… we’re apparently on “Magento Time” meaning soon == “some time between now and some point in the future”

I won’t post any release information until I know were absolutely sure we’ll hit that time frame.

Stay tuned though! cool smile

@Scott....yeah, it looks like I’m going to have to use the T-Hub solution but I was really hoping to use your direct integration.  I didn’t see any code posted on the Google page either.  Is there anyway for you to give us somthing like 0 months < Beta1 < 6 months-------or.....Still President Bush>Beta1.............not trying to harass, but I’ll be rolling out our Magento installation soon and need to know if I can wait it out or if I should just jump into T-Hub.  Thanks for all your work and let us know if there is anything that we can do to help.

another option is fishbowl. It is an inventory software companion for quickbooks that allows for downloads of orders from magento into quickbooks through fishbowl.

Costs way more but is capable of so much more than discussed here. Including importing orders from magento into QB, integration with UPS worldship, ability to track all of your inventory and keep it updated in both quickbooks and magento, creating order picking tickets in a gun that wont allow you to take things off shelves without scanning (eliminating mistakes), automatic creation of purchase orders when stock gets low , complete receiving, piecing ....... so many things it is hard to list

@snarkys Starting at around 2 grand for 1 user and recurring yearly fees is def. not an option for us.  Sure it seems they offer a lot, but can’t even think about using them.  I’d rather pay someone to build what we need and have it done with.

ya , its not for everyone .

For us it would remove so much accounting/inventory work and order errors it would pay for itself many times over.

BTW they have to custom make it for magento . Costs $2,500 for the integration but after the first person pays it might be cheaper since the code is already written

Update: T-Hub is almost a viable solution now. There a few problems that I mention on the module review page, but they are working on them.

August has been our busiest month yet, and client work always comes first. While I always have high hopes of getting this project finished up, I just haven’t had a lick of time to do that. Besides, “finished” is merely the beginning.  I don’t want to rush something out, have it be buggy, and not be able to support it due to the busyness of the season. T-Hub is a bit more feature-full than the direction we’re headed anyway, so some may find it valuable for the cost.

Fact is, just as the Magento team doesn’t give a timeline, I won’t either, unless I know without a doubt I can meet it. Better to have anxious users vs. angry and impatient users.

cool smile

We’re slowly starting to move forward with the project once again. I know I said I wasn’t interested in taking donations, but at this point I think it may be the only viable way to re-prioritize the project as “high”. Client work isn’t slowing down by any means, but recently there’s been people willing to donate to the project.

What if I setup the first beta as a private beta for donators? They’d get support and so forth for a minimum donation. I’m throwing around a figure of around $100 per beta user, which are both still less than T-Hub. I was going to make this my next announcement, but have decided I don’t want unwelcome flack regarding the donation-beta, but I think it’s a win-win, and I would setup the campaign as a pay-when-its-ready fund. So how does everyone feel about this?

Cheers,
Scott
