Catalog/Manage Categories - add a new category within the root category
Catalog/Manage Products - add new product

Create a couple of products in a couple of categories and hey presto you’re up & running.  grin

Obviously there’s a great deal of furkling that you can then do (attributes etc.), but this is all you need for a quick start and to see Magento begin to work ....

Sorry, I can’t help you with PayPal - I’ve not done that myself yet ...

I use a PayPal business account and it works great. I will be moving away from PayPal as soon as a Protx system is available though.

cougar,

just a quick quesiton for you ... i’ve been looking at the payment providers, and at the moment google checkout seems much cheaper than using protx ... google has a flat rate, but to use protx u have to pay their fees and then your banks fees as well ... any opinion ?

Hi nigeljh,

We’ve always done traditional PSP (payment service provider) integrations using SECPay (we’re partners), Protx etc. We integrated Google Checkout into a site we completed recently and while it’s definitely cheaper there is a different order of customer service too.

If you have any problems, want to do something slightly differently etc. then there’s not much help available. I suppose it depends on your requirements but there does seem to be two tiers of PSP with different sets of costs and service.

Thanks

Tim

I like to use a solution that keeps the customer on the shop website. As I understand it, Google checkout takes them away from the shop, completes the transaction, then brings them back.

I will offer it as an alternative but just prefer an integrated solution.
