Supposedly, according to their FAQ, it’s PHP5.2.4.

See http://faq.1and1.com/scripting_languages_supported/php/3.html

and click the link to PHP5.

Looks fine to me. Or is the UK 1&1 behind? with PHP 5.0 only.

If you’re having issues though, I’ll set it up for free on one of my hosting plans - http://www.aegishosting.co.uk

Magento is specifically designed for PHP 5 (but requires a minimum of v5.2.0), so of course it will work on a PHP 5 only server.

The link shaun posted shows 1&1 using PHP 5.2.5 - which is fine.

I’ve successfully got a demo site running on 1&1.

There are a few quirks to do with their shared SSL but it does work.

For production releases I have been looking at UnitedHosting.co.uk. I have heard good things about them although the price of their managed servers is a little hefty.

I have managed to install the preview site via my hosting at clook.co.uk

Fairly effortless to be honest - once I realised I had forgotten to generate a user name for the mysql database! It all worked as per the straight forward installation instructions.

Hi all,

Clarkey, what are Clook like? Are they good. I need to get a hosting package set-up ASAP and I’d not heard of them before. Do you use the Virtual Private server?

Cheers,
Jim
