Hi Matt,

Thanks for the post.

Have visited and page load is quicker than US hosted sites (as you’d expect), but other ecommerce platforms seem quicker.  I do like the idea of Magento, but will probably watch the development for a bit longer before taking the plunge.

Thanks once again Matt, how was the install?

Cheers

Nick

No problem.

The install was easy as pie but then again I am a developer for a living! I feel as long as your server specs match the required, you shouldn’t have a problem. Installing on Lighttpd is nice and simple and only requires one single config file change.

I will update this install as new releases come out and I understand that the Magento team are making speed improvments all the time.

I am with you on the fact that zencart and oscommerce seem to be much quicker at the moment but I am sure that a stable release of Magento will be able to match them.

I also intend on moving the servers over to our data centre within the next few weeks. This means I can hang them off the end of a 1Gb dedicated pipe so bandwidth shouldn’t factor into the response times!

Drop me an email if you would like to play with the backend… (oh er!)

Matt.

Hi Matt,

Glad someone can install on servers ok.  For me if it’s not the CGI bin or the Perl scripts or the htaccess docs or the wrong permissions for a folder within a folder then it’s something else!!!

I never thought I’d say this to anybody but if it’s ok I wouldn’t mind a bit of backend expoloration!!!

A lot of platforms I look at have a good/acceptable front-end but the admin and processes backend of things can be archaic.

We normally have between 15 and 20 orders a day but occasionally peak at 40-50 and if you have to wait even an extra 30 seconds to process or print an order then the time can add up, so backend design is important to me.

So if I could have a look that would be great.

Cheers

Nick
