First Post
I started with beta .7 and worked on a first draft until around version .8. After all that time learning what I needed to know I stopped before I got too far and waited for release 1. Since release 1, I started again. Development has been slow as my other duties at work are keeping me busy.
I started this group to use as a blog and work changelog of sorts for magento related projects. It will help me organize my thoughts and might provide some helpful tips along the way.
The Magento experience so far:
Installation was a breeze thanks to my great webhost, http://www.schostpro.com
The learning curve was steep but the results were worth it. I played around with magento, drupal, and Virtuemart. Drupal wasn’t ready for the big time yet, and virtuemart had a great backend but a terrible to skin frontend which was forked from the main joomla project. Magento’s structure is complex, different from standards, and quite huge, but overall it has a great community and is very easy to work with. Everything is named, named appropriately, and can be found if you look hard enough. Everything can be customized while still keeping the core working. Even the core can be customized.
In short, I love magento so far, and as soon as downloadable purchases are added and the configureable items are fixed I will be deploying it on several more projects because I love it so much.
