You know, ideally, you could keep all of your stuff in ExpressionEngine, then the cart functions of Magento could be loaded in iframes, perhaps? If Magento allows itself to be loaded that way. I can see that there might be some templating issues in Magento though. I haven’t dabbled at all in Magento, so I’m asking about the obvious roadblocks—maybe they could be brainstormed around?
Just stopped by and joined this discussion and share my enthusiasm for the EE integration. Since I am not an experienced developer to help out, I’d be willing to chip in financially to expedite this process!
You know, I just figured out that this site is already integrated with Magento. This site also uses Expression Engine. Therefore, there is already a bridge. Does anyone know if Varien has released this bridge?
But is there an actual area on this EE-driven site where they are using commerce? I’m sure building an EE site with download links to the software is no problem, but that’s not actually integration.
If there are any commerce pages that look integrated, it might be worth doing a “view source...” — not that you can tell 100% sure from that but maybe there are helpful comments in the code?
Well, in order to make the two systems usable together, one would need their member databases integrated (ie, user logged in to EE and they’re logged in to Magento). That is what I notice on this site. For example, this page is presumably driven by EE. When you go to the magento store (http://www.magentocommerce.com/store), you are then jumping to the Magento system. You are still logged in. This proves the two member databases have a bridge. Obviously, further integration would be nice, but if we can get that released, it’s definitely valuable to a great number of people, including me:)
Has anyone done this yet? I’m working on a project where I’d like to integrate Magento and EE. I’ve read the chapter in the Magento Programming book (mentioned in the previous comment), and am looking to find a PHP programmer to help with this project. Any leads?

Cool, looks like we have a new leader.
Do you have your EE site up and running, or it in development too?

This would be the bomb as expression engine tied in with magento uses the two best systems out there for everything needed.

What are the basic barriers to integration?

In the Magento book published by php|architects, there is a chapter on integrating Magento with other membership login systems. http://www.phparch.com/c/books/id/9780973862171

I vote for EE / Magento integration. This would be a powerful bundle! I have no programming skills but will donate a few bucks if such project starts.
