Initial Australia Post shipping module
Hello everyone, from my experience with osCommerce I know that a lot (or even, the majority) of Australian Magento users are going to want a shipping module for Australia Post, so I wrote one up. It’s not 100% complete yet - for example, there’s no insurance and the code need a few improvements - but it is completely functional and seems to work for the cases I’ve tested.
The necessary files, along with installation instructions, can be found at my company’s site: http://www.fontis.com.au/magento
This is just the first part of a broader scoped module aimed at providing Australian functionality and any help from the rest of the Magento Australia group would be greatly appreciated! Even just testing the module and letting me know of any cases where it doesn’t work, or features you’d like added, would be very helpful.

I did some (quick) testing of this - when selecting to send items to New Zealand from Australia - I was presented with 2 options - air and sea - sea however was $0.00 - I think that if the result returned is 0, then it should not be displayed.

that looks awesome
i’ll test that for sure once the full version is released
have you integrated a local payment gateway yet? and if so which one and how did you find it?

Thanks for the feedback guys! The second “preview” version is now available at the same address and I’ll be adding a new blog post about it here soon.
@Ajazza: I haven’t actually tested the international shipping yet! I had (obviously mistakenly) assumed it would work correctly if the domestic shipping was working. I’ll get on to finding out what the problem is.
@koyan: For the next version I have implemented BPAY and Direct Deposit payment methods. No actual gateways yet but I have a client wanting to be moved over from osCommerce who uses ANZ eGate so I’ll probably start on that first. I’d like to integrate the gateways from the other major banks and something like Paymate. If you have any other suggestions for local gateways I’d love to hear them.

Chris you’re a legend, got it working sweet.
Same issue with the $0 shipping option to NZ showing, but very happy.
If you ever do the eGate integration then you would definitely be on my xmas card list. I heard there is a paypal module that is hosted within your own site, do you know if this exists?
Thanks again,
Dan

Hi Dan,
Thanks for the positive feedback! The version currently in Magento Connect is the latest and should not have the problem with the $0 shipping. I really do have to remove the old version from the Fontis site.
ANZ eGate isn’t currently in development but is a higher priority than the other banks as I already have a potential client who would like to use it. So you can expect something in the not-too-distant future.
Finally, I do not believe PayPal Australia allows you to use anything other than the “Standard” option, which redirects customers to the PayPal site. I have looked to see if the merchant-hosted option is available down under but everything I’ve read indicates the contrary. If you find out this is not the case, please let me know as I know plenty of people who would like to use this.
Thanks again for the feedback!
Chris

Chris,
I would like very much to integrate some Magento stores with ANZ’s eGate. Let me know if you are able to undergo such a project ir have something in the works.

Michael
