Overview
An enhanced version of the quick search. Provides much better results than the one that came with Magento.
An enhanced version of the quick search. Provides much better results than the one that came with Magento. The enhanced version allows to you search for separate terms instead of just exact phrases.Example:
Searching for 'iPhone Case Hot Pink' turn up 0 results with the built-in Magento search function, because I don't have any products with the exact phrase:
http://www.geekgears.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=iphone+case+hot+pink
With the modify search function, the search return 11 results:
http://www.geekgears.com/catalogsearch/enhanced/?q=iphone+case+hot+pink
If wouldn't matter what the order of the search term is.
iPhone Hot Pink Case
Hot Pink iPhone Case
Case iPhone Hot Pink
Better "SYNONIM" support
------------------------------------
What's SYNONIM? It's just like synonym, but spelled differently. ;-)
To access your synonym list, go to you Magento Admin Panel. Click on "search" under the catalog menu. You should see a list of all the search queries that have been used. You can add your own search term if you want here. There is a column label "synonym for". What is this used for?
Say you have lots of products and accessories for the iPod Touch. All your names and description contain the word "iPod Touch". However, you realize from the search query list, customers are searching for "iTouch" or "i-Touch". However, "iTouch" and "i-Touch" does not return any results, because all your products and accessories have the name "iPod Touch" instead. However, you want all the searches for "iTouch" or "i-Touch" to match search results from "iPod Touch". This is where you would create a synonim.
So for the search query:
| Search Query | Synonym For: |
|---|---|
| itouch | iPod Touch |
| i-touch | iPod Touch |
Another good use of synonyms are abbreviations, such as TV, which is an abbreviation for television.
| Search Query | Synonym For: |
|---|---|
| TV | television |
| mem | memory |
| hd | hard drive |
Or you can use it for a plural form a search terms.
| Search Query | Synonym For: |
|---|---|
| cases | case |
| televisions | television |
| speakers | speaker |
