EasySKU was created out of a need for a more powerful interface for configuring Magento. Configurable products are really just a fancy way to interact with simple products. A configurable product is like a T-Shirt with a different colors and sizes. The user may select the color and size of the shirt they want before they click add to cart. Wait, what's that you say? Your users can't even see the dropdown list? Well that's inconvenient.
Magento organizes configurable products to actually select a specific underlying simple product to put into the shopping cart. In order for the user to be able to select a Large Blue shirt, you must have a simple product in your inventory that is Large and Blue. If you do not have this simple product, and if it is not associated with the proper configurable product, then Large and Blue will not be available to your customers.
Okay, but there is the Quick Create function. Yes the Quick Create function works, but what if you sell your products made to order? Or what if you just have a lot of options? Say your custom shirts had about 5 different attributes such as Fabric, Cut, Length and Design, each with about 4 different options such as Nylon, Slim or Tall. That's about a thousand permutations for one product. Now say you have a hundred products. The time it will take you to enter those products one by one could end up being years. One thing is for sure, the next version of Magento will be out by then.
So take a load off and let EasySKU do all the heavy lifting. Using EasySKU can literally be as easy as 1... 2. Yes that's right: 1) select all 2) generate products.
That is, if the defaults are sane for you. If you need different defaults, don't worry because there are many options to choose from.
