The Magento eCommerce platform is named winner of two of the most prestigious awards in the web applications awards circuit.
Los Angeles, Sep 3, 2008 – Varien, the Magento Company, announced last week that its eCommerce Platform Magento was recognized by two of the industry's top awards shows, winning awards for Magento's innovative use of open source technology to deliver unprecedented flexibility to eCommerce merchants.
Sourceforge.net, the world's largest repository of open source projects, host to more than 180,000 projects and more than 1.9 million registered users, named Magento, The Best New Open Source Project for 2008. The Magento eCommerce platform, released for production environment in Q1 of 2008, was nominated for a total of four Awards (including Most Likely to Be the Next $1B Acquisition), taking home The Best New Open Source Project Award - an award recognizing the newly created project with the most potential for success.
The winners, which included some of the biggest players in the open source world such as OpenOffice.org and Linux, were announced at the open source staple event of the year, OSCON 08.
That same week, Magento was also recognized by the editors and staff of InfoWorld with a BOSSIE Award naming Magento the Best of Open Source Enterprise Applications (E-Commerce). The BOSSIE Awards celebrate the best products that open source has to offer for businesses, their IT staffs, and their employees’.
