Senior PHP Programmer
Varien is currently seeking a Senior PHP Programmer to help us change the world of eCommerce. Varien is an interactive development firm with an eCommerce focus devoted to creating engaging web sites, rich internet applications, and innovative user experiences. This summer, we're releasing Magento, an open-source eCommerce solution with limitless flexibility and user control. Are you passionate about the web with an eye for innovation? Required Skills:
- 5+ years programming experience
- Strong PHP5 / Object Oriented Programming skills
- Strong understanding of Design Patterns
- Experience with software development lifecycle, from design and implementation to unit testing and production deployment
- Familiarity and experience working on *nix systems
- Source control with SVN or CVS
- Expert understanding of XHTML/CSS/Javascript/Ajax
- Detail oriented with excellent organization and time-management abilities
- Ability to write design specifications, programming specifications, and documentation
The position is full-time and open to onsite/offsite/telecommute/remote candidates. For offsite candidates, the working hours are 6 AM - 2 PM PST (14:00 - 22:00 GMT). This may be flexible depending on location.

Project Manager
Varien is continuing to grow and we are seeking a talented, motivated and entrepreneurial minded project manager. The individual will provide structure and overall vision on our projects. This includes interfacing heavily with our technical teams to assure that the solutions are understood and address the customer’s business requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the main point of contact between Varien and the client.
- Develops technical specifications for web applications and feature upgrades.
- Oversees the launch of new features.
- Coordinates among cross-functional teams to identify challenges, recommend and implement solutions.
- Provides support, administration, and user training for web-based tools.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering, communications, or information sciences, with two (2) plus years experience in Web/interactive/technical product or project management
- Familiarity with HTML, DHTML, CSS, PHP, AJAX, JavaScript, and emerging Web technologies.
- Solid understanding of web technologies, usability, and information architecture.
- Understanding of platform and browser compatibility issues.
- Knowledge of basic data management, database concepts, and database-driven Web applications.
- Excellent communication, project management, and expectation management.
- Ability to handle multiple, competing priorities, meet deadlines, manage risk, and troubleshoot problems.
- Detail-oriented approach to work.

Interactive Designer, Full Time, Freelance
We are looking to grow our team!
The Interacive Designer will handle all aspects of the design process from concept to the production of visual assets. You will work closely with product and project managers at Varien to define the scope of the project and with engineers/developers to determine the best way to execute the designs. Requirements:
- 3+ years experience in conceptual design, detailed design and web production work.
- Outstanding portfolio with engaging designs.
- Online design experience a must. This is not a print design position.
- Experience interacting with product managers to help define and refine product requirements.
- Experience working with engineers/developers to collaborate on the production and QA processes.
- Provide user interface expertise from concept through development
- Able to develop design concepts, carry them forward, and produce pixel perfect production assets for development.
- Able to contribute to the establishment and ownership of design guidelines, and help manage and evolve them over time.
- Ability to work in a fast-moving environment and produce results quickly and efficiently.
- Excellent team player with the maturity to advocate design and lead the process and manage own time within budget constraints.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to listen to and understand the needs of others while articulating one’s own thoughts.
- Excellent understanding of consumer internet.
- Expert level skills and experience with Photoshop.
- Intermediate-level knowledge of Macromedia Flash.
- A basic understanding of how web-based presentation layer technologies work and how to exploit them, including DHTML, Flash, and AJAX.
- The designer should be self-motivated and be able to make logical decisions to ensure the overall success of the project by creating designs that seamlessly address customer and business concerns and objectives.
- Keep abreast of current design tools, techniques and methodologies.
