This it same as bug report #20580 which was reported for version 1.4.0.0 but it was closed. I really don't know why this bug report was closed with no reason or explanation at all from Magento dev-team. The thing is that in 1.4.0.1 the Whole Backend -> Index Management section (including "Index management" menu title) still isn't using Mage_Index.csv translation file. So nothing under Index Management is translated by default.

Only option to translate that section currently is copying the whole content of /app/locale/xx_XX/Mage_Index.csv into file app/design/adminhtml/default/default/locale/xx_XX/translate.csv. That way translations work but this is not the right file.

Please fix this in next release so Magento will use Mage_Index.csv as it should and not translate.csv!

This is a bug! Developers just forgot to add this lines

to /app/code/core/Mage/Index/etc/config.xml after line 143
