As reported for previous issues, product images will stop showing when they are originally created on a case-insensitive file system (FAT, NTFS, HFS+) and moved to a case sensitive one (ext3, ext2, etc...).

The cause for this is the file uploader creates different folders for lowercase c and uppercase C while on a case-sensitive but on a case-insensitive one both folders are the same.

This issue has been reported before and would take very little to fix it seems. See http://www.magentocommerce.com/bug-tracking/issue?issue=5151
