I'm still getting it in v 1.2.1.2. It's not just confined to my store - the demo store on magentocommerce.com has it as well:
Go to:
http://demo.magentocommerce.com/bed-and-bath/living-room
Type in:
123
in the search bar. Wait a few seconds, and a list many times longer than the page appears. This doesn't happen if you type in any search with letters in. e.g. typing in:
co
gives a long list, but each result is unique.

The search has to have been done previously to get the error message. So if you are trying your own install, you will need to search for "123", then press "search", and get redirected to the results page (it doesn't matter if there are results or not). Now that 123 has been searched for by a previous user it will display the problem I am getting. The demo store did not show the problem for "123" until I had searched for it.

My Vista machine has the problem (FF, IE, Chrome), as do other computers I have tried, including Vista, Mac and XP.

On demo.magentocommerce.com database I found lots of records for '123' query. The major of them were created in 2008. Maybe it was a bug at that time and database was not cleaned up.

If anyone else had this problem it results from searches done before the v1.6 update. You'll need manually delete the extra searches in Catalog > Search.]]>
