I have setup the following in my system:

Website
---- Store 1: UK Store
--------- Store View 1: English EN
---- Store 2: European Store
--------- Store View 1: English EN
--------- Store View 2: French FR
--------- Store View 3: Italian IT

I have also setup one product, which appears on both Stores and all four Store Views. Price is the same, only the default currency changes.

However, I am trying to change the Tax Class for the product because for W1:S1:SV1 the Tax Class should correspond to 17.5% (Taxable Goods), while for W1:S2:SV1,SV2 & SV3 the Tax Class should correspond to 0% (0-Rated).

ACTION #1:
a. From the product edit screen, I choose store view ?Default Values?
b. On the ?Prices? tab I select ?Taxable Goods? for Tax Class
c. I save the changes
RESULT:
In all store views, the Tax Class changes to ?Taxable Goods? and the ?Use Default Value? checkbox is checked.
NOTE:
This is what I would expect should happen

ACTION #2:
a. From the product edit screen, I choose store view ?French (FR)?
b. On the ?Prices? tab I select ?0-Rated? for Tax Class (to do that, I need to UNCHECK the ?Use Default Value? checkbox.
c. I save
RESULT:
The Tax Class changes to ?0-Rated? for the product at the ?Default Values? level (although I selected the SPECIFIC Store View).
The ?Use Default Value? checkbox is checked FOR ALL STORE VIEWS.
NOTE:
I consider this a bug?

Please, please, please confirm that you consider it a bug too?

I would like to add that, according to the perceived model, the values should change at WEBSITE level and not at 'Default Values' (GLOBAL) level.]]> #2 / Comment by Magento Team

Hello cnrx,

This issue is not a bug. Tax Class attribute has "Website" scope. That means that change of its value on any store view is propagated on all the store views of the same website.
