When customers go to their account page and view their recently ordered items (on the left) the link displayed is for the simple product that is a component of the group product. Because the simple product is set to "nowhere" visibility - the user is given a 404 error.

Solution seems to be to use links to the Grouped Product instead of the simple product. (Or, alternatively, create a 3rd category of visibility... that doesn't show on search or catalog but allows people to view with a direct link.)
