View Issue #6353 / Upload product picture function

Posted: 2008-08-07 19:25:05
Category: Product
Version: 1.1.2
Priority: urgent
Status: closed
Reported By: cyfer

Hi Magento Team,
Not too sure that this bug hasn't been reported to you yet, but i couldn't find anything when searching so here goes.

The upload product picture function is not working. When uploading a picture it just returns the Finish message but the image dosn't show and it can't be chosen. If trying to save product i get thrown back to the admin login page.
It seems to be a bit periodic for some reason as i was actually able one day to upload two pictures.

I have tried with both firefox and internet explorer with same results. Searching through the forums it seems that many people have had this error with previous versions of magento as well as with 1.1.2.
This is in my opinion a very critical error and should be dealt with accordingly.

Specs of webhost:
OS:     Debian Linux 4.0
Webserver:     Apache 2
PHP:     PHP 5.2
PHP safe-mode:     off
MySQL:     MySQL 5.0

Thanks in advance. Loving the system! :)

In the previous versions of Magento, adding the following codes will solve the problem:-
"magic_quotes_gpc = off
short_open_tag = on
extension=pdo.so
extension=pdo_mysql.so"

However, this code does not solve the problem for version 1.1.2.

#3 / Comment by Brady

I've also been having this problem since 1.1.2 (possibly earlier). Seems to only affect Firefox and Safari. The image upload / browse files button works in Internet Explorer just fine.

My big problem is - I'm Mac-based and don't have access to Internet Explorer, which means I can't upload images.
(Can't install Explorer 7, so don't know if it works with it)

I just can't believe they didn't fix this vital fonction yet ! If bugs that were not in older version appears in new ones, we'll never be able to have functional stores !!

#7 / Comment by JB22

We have the same issue and have wasted a _ton_ of time trying to get this to work. Very frustrating.

This is our first look at Magento and, even though we really like its many nice features, we have lost confidence in it when critical issues like these remain ignored by the developers for such a long time.

We have started looking for another ecommerce platform. Probably won't be as shiny as Magento from the start, but hopefully stable and reliable. Shiny does not mean much when it does not work.

#8 / Comment by maslenka

I did little workaround and find that uploading images works fine on fresh apache/php installation (which is more or less unsecured) but not on my hosting. After many tries to upload images i found that apache creates new http session after uploading image(s) with that crappy flash uploader. (So, if you manage log in again between pressing ?upload images? and ?save? button, everything works fine)

With help of my hosting sysadmin we finally found following solution working:

put these lines into your .htaccess file (or appropriate lines to php.ini):

php_flag suhosin.session.cryptua off
php_flag suhosin.cookie.cryptua off
php_flag suhosin.session.cryptdocroot off
php_flag suhosin.session.encrypt off
php_flag suhosin.cookie.cryptdocroot off
php_flag suhosin.cookie.encrypt off

#17 / Comment by moz667

In app/design/adminhtml/default/default/template/media/uploader.phtml
change this line :

<?php echo $this->getJsObjectName() ?> = new Flex.Uploader('<?php echo $this->getHtmlId() ?>', '<?php echo $this->getSkinUrl('media/uploader.swf') ?>', <?php echo $this->getConfigJson() ?>);

for this :

<?php echo $this->getJsObjectName() ?> = new Flex.Uploader('<?php echo $this->getHtmlId() ?>', '<?php echo ereg_replace("http.://" . $_SERVER["SERVER_NAME"] . "/", "/", $this->getSkinUrl('media/uploader.swf')) ?>', <?php echo ereg_replace("http.:\\/\\/" . $_SERVER["SERVER_NAME"] . "\\/", "\\/", $this->getConfigJson()) ?>);

The bug its in flex uploader (or perhaps in the flash plugin).
For one reason, when define the flex uploader object with absolute path and domain included in parameters, it can not upload files through https. Only works when use relative paths or absolute without domain.
