Internal Server Error when trying to install

I’ve uploaded all the files to my server, changed the permissions for the main folder to 777. Followed all the instructions in the tutorial.

When I go to mydomain.com/magento I get an internal server error. So I’m stuck at this step.

Any suggestions please?

Try setting both magento root folder and index.php to 755, and also js/proxy.php

For more details, see http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/magento_filesystem_permissions

Thanks, that worked. The install wizard is running, however it looks strange and is hard to read. There’s a bunch of vertical lines across it.

Also when I get this message:

“PHP Extension “pdo_mysql” must be loaded”

...it won’t let me go any further.

I thought it might be helpful to see a screenshot of the problem.

Bump. I’m still having this problem. Can someone please take a look at the screenshots and see if it’s something you can help with? I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi there,

Never seen that error before (well the strange lines anyway!).  The pdo_mysql error relates to your php settings - could you post your php info on here?  (in case, and no offence, you don’t know how to do that, check out this post http://forums.kayako.com/f74/creating-phpinfo-page-12660/ for details how).

I’m getting an internal server error too.  My hosting company suggested that I set up a password restricted directory to put the files into so I’ve set up http://www.mydomain.com/private/magento/ but I am getting the server error when I try to access http://www.mydomain.com/private/magento/install.  I removed the password protection for the private folder and I can see the content of http://www.mydomain.com/private/.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Bump. Still having issues....I really want to use this software but it seems hard to get support and it’s obviously hard to install.

If I offer up some homemade chocolate chip cookies perhaps someone will have an answer for me? Freshly baked! All yours for some insight...wink

@Orangecat
You should contact your hosting and request from them to add PHP Extension “pdo_mysql”

Will do.

Any idea what’s up with those lines? It seems like the graphics on the installer are all wonky…

My host said he would not install it yet because its an experimental plugin that may cause problems.

Is there any way around this requirment so I can still use the software?

You can always use the CGI workaround but your site will be slow and it is not recommended for a production environment.

If your hosting company insists on not supporting this “feature” you may need to go to one that does. Just a thought.
