Please specify more exactly the nature of your problem. What is the actual behaviour, what did you expect to happen, and what are your tax-related settings in Sales and the individual product you tested for checkout. Using which magento version?
Thank you,
Stefan.

I use register option to checkout and I get taxed, but when I use guess at checkout the tax is gone…
and I need the tax is ON when I use checkout as guess

Hm. Did you change anything? Maybe put a different product into your cart (different product tax class)?

Hey guys, i’m just wondering where do you set the tax rates? I can’t find it anywhere? I just need to add 10% tax on all my products.

I get this problem, but hasnt magically disappeared for me.
Using version 1.0.19870.1.
What I find is that when not logged in if I add to cart then the cart page doesnt show the tax. But it is showed if I repeat process but have logged in.
I also find that when I go through checkout as guest at the end the tax is shown, and if I dont checkout but then click on “My Cart” the tax is still shown.
I’ve checked my settings and NOT LOGGED IN is in correct group for being taxed.
Any help appreciated.

Ok, I sussed this out after digging around in the code.
Seems that the tax calculation is all based on the address. And a guest doesn’t have an address to start with, so no tax can be calculated.
I changed the “Tax based on” tab to be “shipping origin” rather than “shipping address” and all then works okay.
I then get into problems with how to stop VAT being applied when selling abroad, but I’ll worry about that separately.
