Hi, i’ve been developing Magento locally on ubuntu starting from Edgy and now on Gutsy, didn’t encounter any specific problem with the distro. I would think that the problem is with missing uploaded files or corrupted db setup.
Do you have SSH access to your host? Could you start from scratch and tell me what is the first problem during installation you get?
ubuntuUser: Quite frankly, you are not qualified to be installing Magento. You would be doing a great disservice to your customers by attempting to do so. Either learn how to use the tools properly, or hire someone who already does know how. Don’t expect others in the community to do it for you. I can’t believe the arrogance displayed in your posts, expecting to have a pre-built VM image made? Are you kidding? And expecting other members to SSH into your machine, for FREE, to do this kind of work for you? That is simply not realistic. I would encourage you NOT to use tools like XAMPP/WAMP, simply because it allows you to remain ignorant. Now, setting up systems like this is not trivial, but it is not terribly difficult either, especially with all the automation Ubuntu provides. You need to sit down and take the time to learn the internals of Apache, PHP, Mysql, Zend, Ubuntu, etc. and then you can begin to work with things like this. Of course you can post your specific problems here, and people will try to help you, but just don’t expect everyone to do the work for you! That is all, I do hope you learn enough to become a contributing member of the community at some point. Good luck!
seriously. “getting angry now”? are you like twelve years old? and why are you even running ubuntu if you don’t even know how to view the source code of a webpage???
hell, give me ssh access. my linux knowledge is rather minor but even i can set it up for you.
