Integrating Magento into existing website?

We recently spent a great deal of time and money on a site redesign.  We’ve been trying to figure out how to apply the look and feel to the Magento site because we love the backend functionality, but we’ve run into a wall.

Has anyone successfully integrated some but not all of the Magento functionality into their existing website without having to start from scratch?

We are facing the following issues:

- We love the user-friendly features like the Wishlist and Account Info, including order updates, but there is other stuff we don’t have any use for, like the newsletter.  We’d love to just SSI the purchase process into the existing php-driven site.

- Unlike most storefronts, we don’t have multiple products in multiple categories.  Instead we have one VERY customizable product.  Has anyone been able to configure Magento to handle customizations without having to hack them to be upsells?

If you’re a developer and you think you can take this on, drop a line grin

There is a Job Board where you can post to look for developer - posting it here is against forum rule, something that I’d been told.

For customizable/configurable product, you may want to wait till the Bundle feature comes out (many of us holding our breaths, waiting anxiously and eagerly for this feature!)

If you site is done in CSS layout, the integration shouldn’t be difficult, however 100% customization of Magento does take awful lot of time.

Thanks, Chinesedream, we will hope the bundle does the trick.

I know it isn’t exactly a way to sell Magento, but an upfront clear list of the things is CANNOT do would have been helpful for those of us who had to learn the hard way.  The install and re-design has taken us weeks longer after figuring out that some features were not as advertised :-(
