I’m starting to worry that we are in bigger trouble than we originally expected.. It’s been nearly a week now that we’ve been trying to resolve the issue with Magento and Authorize.net ourselves and we still haven’t heard a word back from Support....

If ANYONE can help shed light on this issue it would be greatly appreciated.  Authorize.net is about the most popular gateway out there.

I’m having the same error you are. I have not yet resolved this issue either.

OK so I did the firebug debugger and Firefox and run through my checkout process and found that the error popped up 194 seconds into the processing. Its my belief that it was simply timing out taking to long to generate the invoice number and send info to authorize.net and then retrieve information was always nothing no response.

To test this I switched from go daddy shared hosting economy Linux package to the basic hosting with simple helix.  I did a fresh install of my current distro 1.0.870 i think it was then I copied over all my modified files to the new host over top of the new install. Then I took the relevant tables in mySql that had data placed into them and did a replace in phpmyadmin and over written the tables.  I tried doing just a total Db import and total file for site upload but trust me this is ugly and does not work. In the end if you do manage to get it working the magento connect downloader will not work with the pear installer.

Now my site is running again Much faster might I ad and the orders are processing but No what is this new issue!  The magento backend is saying orders are processed and paid for but the orders are never being posted to authorize.net. I verified that I was not in test mode but posting orders live. Waited a day and still a no go orders not posting to authorize.net.  Well I figure I got the same sight on 2 different hosts so why not try upgrading to 1.1.2. Well I did that and it started working orders are processing on both ends. Only problem was that the sales tax, sales emails and checkout config pages on the system config on the backend loaded blank.

Installed a fresh copy of 1.1.2 using the magento downloader, imported the relevant sql tables that were just upgraded to 1.1.2 format and back in operation and all configuration pages are now working in the systems config.

This was definitely a pain but worth it. I’m interested if the rest of you who are having problems are on shared hosting as well.

Everybody that have an error that response is empty or invalid, please check in your phpinfo(); if CURL has SSL enabled.

This is how it should look if correctly compiled and enabled:

curl
cURL support  enabled
cURL Information  libcurl
/7.15.5 OpenSSL/0.9.8b zlib/1.2.3 libidn/0.6.5

This is how it looks if SSL is NOT enabled for CURL:

curl
cURL support  enabled
cURL Information  libcurl
/7.18.2 zlib/1.2.1.2 libidn/0.5.6

If SSL is not enabled for CURL, all the responses to secure HTTPS urls, such as authorize.net api url, will return empty.

I can confirm what AndreusPT posted.  We were able to fix all issues regarding both Authorize.net and UPS XML shipping by recompiling cURL with OpenSSL.

Im running magento 1.1.4 fresh install and just checked my phpinfo

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
cURL support enabled
cURL Information libcurl/7.15.5 OpenSSL/0.9.8b zlib/1.2.3 libidn/0.6.5
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

but im still unable to use UPS xml. I have all the setting the same as in another install (Magento ver. 1.0.19870.4) and it works fine there??

Any other suggestions related to this problem, Varien?

Require the same assistance.

I too am getting the Unable to read response, or response is empty error

cURL is compiled for ssl, and I can run cURL from the command line and pull down https://www.yahoo.com

Certificate is installed and https traffic works fine throughout the checkout, until I submit the payment.

I’ve triple checked the API keys, I’ve called Authorize.net and they push the blame back on Magento

I’ve made the edit to the database table as outlined earlier.

Anything else I can check ?

I’m root on the box and would be happy to allow a developer access to take a peek if needed.
