I currently have Host Gator for my hosting and they offer Magento CE but it is only version 1.7.0.2 via QuickInstall. Is there an article that gives details on how to upgrade to the newest version. I am new to Magento and have not worked with it till now.

Thanks

Mark

It’s very easy to update 17.0.2 to 1.8.x.x

Here is what I did…

Backup entire site - just in case

Use Magento Connnect Manager (MCM)
Once you are in MCM check the update

Select all the updates that show up to the latest.
Let it update.. this may take about 10 min.

Your site won’t work after update… Don’t worry - Use cPanel or FileZilla change:
All Folder to 755 and files to 644
Your site now should be ver. 1.8.1.0

PS: that is what I did to my 1.7.0.2

What do you mean check the update? Are you supposed to upload the package tarball or zip file first to the latest 1.8.x version or just check the drop downs to update to the latest available version hit update clear sessions and CHMOD the folders when its done and files accordingly? Thats what I take from it . Thanks
