503 is generally a planned outage error.

Look in the root directory of your magento install for a file named “maintenance.flag” if there is one just rename it maintenance.flag.bak or delete it. Once it’s changed your site will work again.

thanks bud!

thanks buddy........

maintenance.flag to maintenance.flag.bak was the solution for me also

Solved the problem for me. Thanks!

Magento Connect should be updated to make sure it does not leave this file around when its procedures do not end correctly.

I performed a Magento System Backup and got the 503 error.

Renaming the file maintenance.flag to maintenance.flag.bak helped this error go away.

Hi,

Im using Magento Community v1.8.1.0, and i have had the 503 error problem after i removed a extension. By reading this thread, i went to my Magento root folde rand i saw the maintenance flag file so i have rename it and the problem is solved.

But my quesiton is if i can delete the file or if this file will be needed by Magento in the future?

Thanks
