How do I change the name of the Advanced Search page

Hi,

I recognise this is probably a very basic question but I am completely new to Magento, so please take it easy grin

I would like to change the name of the Advanced Search page from “Catalog Advanced Search” to just “Advanced Search”, so that the name of the page, and the title etc. show just “Advanced Search”.

Also, for the simple search function, can I change the name of the URL ? E.g. from /catalogsearch to search?

Thank you very much in advance for any guidance.

Leah

Changing the title of the advanced search can be done with the translation feature, just create a CSV file in your magento locale theme directory.
By default the theme is default/default and can be found in app/design/frontend/default/default.

Example (Assuming your store locale is English (USA) and you’re using the default magento template):
create the file app/design/frontend/default/default/locale/de_DE/translate.csv and plache the following line there (no trailing or leading linebreaks/whitespaces):

“Catalog Advanced Search","Advanced Search”

Flush the magento locales cache and thats it.

To change the url from /catalogsearch to /search is pretty simple, just login to jour admin pannel and navigate to “URL Rewrite Management” in the “Catalog” Menu.
Add a new URL-Rewrite by klicking on the appropriate button, select type “Custom”, enter a unique id-path (i.E. ‘custom/catalogsearch’), select your store view, enter ‘search’ in Request path and ‘catalogsearch’ in Target Path.
Save and you’re done

Thanks Axel, I got the translation working with your help grin

However I am having trouble with the URL rewrite. So I want to rename

http://mydomain/catalogsearch/advanced/* as http://mydomain/search/advanced/*

and also

http://mydomain/catalogsearch/result/* as http://mydomain/search/result/*

I created the rewrite rule as follows,
ID Path custom/catalogsearch
Request Path catalogsearch/advanced/
Target Path search/advanced

And have also tried various permutations but it is not working. Could it be because the search functions are not “pages” as such?

Yes, XHTML is a extension and a platform for HTML which makes HTML coding have certain restrictions you must follow. Use XHTML as your doctype not HTML. CSS is just styling for web pages you don’t have to include it as your doctype but when you use it make sure you use you include the script tag (obviously).

I would also like to know the answer!!

It should work like this:

CURRENT URL:
http://mycompany.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=123

DESIRED URL:
http://mycompany.com/search/123 - maybe with “.html” at the end (like http://mycompany.com/search/123.html).

I have made a module to translate url’s. You can use it, for example, to change url from:
http:/example.com/catalogsearch/results
to:
http:/example.com/search-results
or any other. There is a possibility to log all untranslated url’s (standard Magento url’s like checkout/cart etc.) and translate them in admin.
I have developed it to translate all url’s to any language but can be also use to change url’s to custom one.

Contact me if You will be interested.
