I’m trying to make use of the category structure to Create a list of Manufacturers as well as Sales/Special Events.
I figured I’d be able to create a new category in the Root (one step above Root Catalog), which would not display it in the default navigation, and allow me to use this new category’s URL wherever I wish. In the case of Manufacturers, I’d just create a drop down list and manually insert the links to each of the sub-categories (brands) in it’s root category. Then, when adding a product to the catalog, I can include it in it’s appropriate category (ex. electronics) as well as it’s Manufacturer’s sub-category (ex. sony).
Same thing for Sales or Special Events. If I were to have a Christmas sale, I could create a new category in the Root called “Christmas Sale”, then add all of the products within that sale to that category.
Theoretically, it seems like it’ll work, and this process may already be documented, but I have just one problem. How do I find the URL for the new categories in the Root? I’ve tried editing the url in order (like http://website.com/catalog/category/view/s/christmas-sale/) but can’t figure out the correct link.
Will what I’ve described work, and how do you figure out the URL for an active Root category that isn’t an anchor?
