This thread is “slow initial page load times”. Not “New product attribute"…
Thanks!

I have three magento stores (two with custom design and one with the default magento theme) and the load times are 1.04, 5.34, and 3.96 seconds (with the default magento theme).  I use semi-dedicated hosting.

Hi lisali -

I think the problem is that some people want to list “New Products” on their home page, and it’s contributing to the slow loading times, plus calinT suggested the solution we’re trying to debug in this thread.  So, it’s a little off topic, but not uncalled for.

Anyway… back to the topic at hand.  Does anyone know what the TTL (Time to Live) of the Magento cache is?  Can we configure it?

Thanks.

I love this software but my partner is complaining about the load speeds… does upgrading to 1.1 help much? or am I just wasting my time?

Hello lisali,

Yes, there definitely is a speed increase in v1.1. Most notably visible is in the add-cart and on the admin.

But ofcourse, with correct optimizations with caching, some of us were already seeing such speed but now it seems even without server-side caching speed is now not an issue here.

For example, when adding to cart:

0.19874 = 5 - 10 seconds to

1.1 = 1 - 2 seconds

And on the admin, most pages now appear instantly.

Hi SimpleHelix,

Many thanks for your reply. That sounds great! How about the loading time of the main/home page, which has been a serious issue for many of us?

Thank you!

I find significant speed improvement v1.1.1 in Catalog listing page (max 33 products).

In the homepage, where I have 6 new products, 6 new featured products and 3 best sellers. I remember it was pretty fast (10 - 15 seconds) even after I clear the caches, reopen the browser, but recently it became very slow, first time loading I saw a blank page in the first 15 - 30 seconds, then everything loads simotaniously. With the latest version, first time loading takes about 10 to 15 seconds seconds, a refresh or open a new window takes less than 4 seconds.

I think v1.1.1 is an impressive upgrade.
