I have manually installed the module after downloading the files from the fontis website direct. Have just done a fresh install of the latest build and will try the manual install again now (only issue I can see is that the version on his site is 0.5.8 although will double check)…
I have also emailed Chris through his site to let him know of the issue with the connect install. He’s done an awesome job on the module and I’m sure he will get the connect version ironed out.
OK - got it installed with a hybrid of techniques from the manual install and the downloader:
1. Find the .060 downloaded packages (downloader/pearlib/download.
2. Move the contents from the package to the appropriate directories following the instructions on http://www.fontis.com.au/magento
3. You will need to download and copy the bpay and Mage_Australia.xml from the fontis site to your install
After that I deleted the cache and went to config/shipping and it’s party time
I can see that the downloaded 060 package does not contain all the files needed and is not putting them in the correct directories. I’m not even sure Chris is seeing these posts....you can email him through the contact page on fontis....
Thanks for all your hard work Chris if you are reading....
I’ve been looking at this solidly for the last 5 hours, and have got nowhere… I thought, OK let’s test this in aother way, I’ll install another module (I choose oscommerce import module), It installed fine, and showed up in the admin area, without any adustments, I noted all paths and can see nothing different except it’s a core module.
I am thinking that the only thing non-standard with my setup is I have modified the default template, and now have it installed under default/myskin.........
I have of course duplicated all the Fontis stuff under BOTH old and new templates, just in case.
I’m just off now to install the NZ version, I might get that working!!
Fontis_Australia.xml place it in;

All done!
for those of you reading this… you are right, I’m no programmer! but, persistance pays off!
I’m wondering if anyone has any further ideas on this.
I’m running magento 1.1.4 and have installed via magento connect the Fontis Australia extension and experienced the same problems as described earlier in this thread, that is, it installs successfully via connect, yet, there is no shipping or payment methods in the configuration area.
So, I tried the manual steps as outlined here… refreshed caches, deleted caches - all the good stuff. Still no go. I can only figure that I have misplaced one of the files or the files I have are not valid. I was unable to get any directly from the fontis website, so I grabbed the files from the /downloader/pearlib/download/ area.
If someone who has overcome this could outline here the files and their locations that would be so appreciated.
Just thought I’d update this post for anyone still having troubles as my particular issue with the extensions not showing in admin is now solved.
The problem: I originally had the cart setup in a subdirectory and moved it to root. All appeared fine with this with the exception of extension installations.
The story: As it turns out I ended up exploring the downloader directory and found the pear.ini file had paths going to the old subdirectory. So I went and checked and found them all installed over there…
Solution: After doing a quick search on here for ‘pear.ini’ I found this post confirming my thoughts and so I deleted the pear.ini file in /public_html/downloader/pearlib/. I then logged back into Magento Connect manager and reinstalled the extensions and guess what! it all worked and I can now happily see the installed extensions in admin. :o)
I have magento 1.1.6 just upgraded then installed the Australia Extension. Seems to have gone without a hitch, no mucking around anywhere, striaght from magento connect.
