Image compression

I’m noticing that the system is automatically putting a higher rate of compression on my images.

Where is this image compression controlled so that I can turn it off? We optimize images before upload so that they have a fine balance of quality and load time.

Thanks,

Just ran into this myself. But in my list.phtml, where I have this:

<?php echo $this->helper('catalog/image')->init($_product'small_image')/*;->resize(135, 135);*/ ?>"

(I commented out the resize, and it’s been working but is compressed)

when I change that to:

<img src="<?php echo $this->helper('catalog/image'); ?>"

I get:

<img src="<br />
<b>Fatal error</b>:  Call to a member function setBaseFile() on a non-object in <b>/var/www/vhosts/rubiegreen.slimkiwi.net/httpdocs/app/code/core/Mage/Catalog/Helper/Image.php</b> on line <b>114</b><br />

And I’d like to be able to pull the small size, just uncompressed.

Mark

That’s good to know, thanks. I’d still like to be able to pull the different image sizes from my template without hacking core code. I’m hoping to deploy this project so that it’s full customized but able to be upgraded when necessary without a great deal of effort to monitor/restore changes made.

Any help on calling different image sizes without compression?

You need to remove the ; from your code - then it should work, it did for me. Except now it pulls the last upsell image on every page instead of images for the actual product.
