I’ve installed 1.0, 1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3 and with each version I find the documentation increasingly out of date (and still have yet to gain successful deployment since a test run with 1.0). I know this is “free” software, _but_ I’d be willing to invest in a service fee to Varien if I could count on half decent documentation. In my opinion, and I’ve been developing business web sites for twelve years, this is the most ambitious piece of software I’ve yet seen on the web and yet it’s one of the more poorly documented. It’s time to cut the feature creep, make the basics work with some semblance of logic, and spend big effort consolidating English documentation, including workarounds.
Christmas stores need to be deployed _very_ soon and unfortunately Magento is still at the stage of genius unfulfilled. Now, how can I help with the documentation process? Who do I need to speak with to help us all bring clarity to the documentation?
Hi Karll,
Absolutely correct. There is no point in writing the book when the core function names change with each version. I developed a very nice template that worked with 1.0 version. It almost completely broke with 1.1. Why? Because the core function names were changed. I had to go through all the process again and compare te code with the default theme to figure out what went wrong.
Should I have to do the same process again with 1.2?
I don’t see the point of MVC model with this policy.
